Hi, I understand the concept of "blending" terrain, but what I dont understand is, how do you use REGULAR terran with a program like starforge? For example, instead of "just" the tile pallet, how can i combine the tile pallet and regular terrain so i can BLEND? Any way to do this? If not, how the HELL are you blending??? (not just sprites, there has to be another way). If there is a program that allows you to use tile pallets plus regular terrain, plz tell me. Thanks

The best way to do this is to give you an example, simplest of which would be combining bridges and dirt. Observe:

See the tiles between the dirt and the bridge pieces? Those tiles are located at either end of the bridge doodad. By looking for what dirt and bridge tiles both blend with, i created this.

To put it simply, the best way to blend is to look for what goes together. When blending high and low dirt, (not the cliffsides mind you) i used pieces from the ramp that connected the two dirts. Seen here:

(Note this was done quick for this paticular post.)

At first if you want to use isom(regular) terrain you should get SCMDraft2, the best editor so far.

SCMDraft also has terrain copy/paste function that helps a lot because you can copy pieces directly from isom.

Blending will come with time and experience. Here are some quick tips:
Hope this helps somehow. Good luck becoming a terrainer. smile.gif

Well thanks for the tips. The reason why I was asking because on some of the terrain pictures I clicked on, they had regular terrain overlapping the square tile blends, which is why i was like "How did he get regular high grass to overlap the blended bridge?" question.

Anyways, Ill try those. Thanks.

I agree with everything except:

SCMDraft2, the best editor so far.

Yes you should get scmd2, but no it isn't the best editor so far. Saying so is totally opinionated. StarForge is also a good editor, but it targets more advanced terrainers. I suggest you get scmd2 to learn then once you got lots of the concepts down you give SF a try... I took everyones word for it about the whole "scmd2 > SF" and I regreted it. At least give it a try. Otherwise the only thing I would say is take a look at what others have done to get some ideas flowing(but never copy them) and dont get too frustrated. smile.gif
