Well, I'm bored right now, so I started brainstorming ideas for Modding. And an idea came to my head, is it possible to make a water unit restricted to water only. I've never heard an idea liek this, or have sene it done, so I wonder. Is it possible to make a water dependant unit for mods requiring a navy and so on. That's my idea which I've never heard mentioned beofre wink.gif

There was this Aqueous Rift mod, with water units, but it's dead.. So i guess it's not a new idea..

Of course it's not a new idea... How long ago did the first navy exist?

The question is, is it really possible to make water only units in StarCraft? I have no idea how that would work...

I kind of see a way if you made a special map and special .got triggers...but it would be really messy and I don't know if you can use locations in .gots even if they're already in the map.

Theres no point in implanting triggers. Then theres no modding involved.

But this idea has been running through my head also like making some units restricted to water. But what about this if it was possible.

You would build a starport next to a water terrain and then when a unit is being built it would spawn on the water and be water only. And disable the flyer settings and it seems more to its point.

I don't think it's possible without the triggering thing. For Aqueous Rift everything was a water unit, so they just changed ground into water.

I don't know but I think that the water terrain follows the same tile rules as any other type of terrain, right? If so, the only way I can imagine water units to really work in SC is through tile-editing. When a unit approaches an inpassable tileset, it will stop and won't try to move onto it, so if you can do something like this with water tiles, then it 'should' work, at least in theory smile.gif

Anyway when i was looking at one screenshot of that mod:

I was thinking, is it really possible, to change around tiles like that when a building is built? Because that's what the description says. But i don't think that could be easily done, so could it be just a pre-made screenshot?

I think it would be possible, but I'm equally sure that you'd need some SERIOUS hex editing.

Yeah, it might have been possible with some extreme CASMing.
