I just am starting to learn about the discreet 3ds max program v 4.0 and this is one complex program but it sounds awesome from the text manuels. Has anyone else got this program and if you do you could post something about how hard it is to learn from scratch...

Hmm, I've heard of it, (It was used to make all the Half-Life models) but never used it. I've used M3d though, so I got some basic 3d modelling skills.

I have 3ds Max 6 and I can say it's hard to use if you don't read the manual. There are a lot of tutorials online, so they can be some help. You should learn how to use Photoshop if you want to create any skins or textures too.

Ya I havent even installed it yet just spent several days reading book one of the reference books, and it seems very complicated from what I've read so far. I cant wait to actually install it though got to wait till next wednesday.

I downloaded it once (illegal i know) for wc3 modeling. made a few basic models.
If anyone wants to see what its like you can download gmax, its the same thing but used for game moddeling and its free

You can download the free trial at www.adobe.com, then you have to buy it after 30 days.

That's true, the Art tools Blizzard released only work on version 5.
