I've put alot of effort into a map im currently creating, yes. And i'm pretty much finished with the terrain/unit part of the map, yesyes. Well, about 3/4 of the way through creating this map, i started to have this problem with saving the map. When using Xtra editor, and tried to save i would get this :
'Could not open file "map name and location" for writing'
(This doesn't occur when using SCM draft, ?mmm.)
I was pissed off, closed it, and reopened it so see that it actually did, indeed save anyway. So I didn't exactly think much of it.
Anyway, at this point, I'm nearing the stage where i begin triggering, and I was just on Bnet, and went to give a mate a look at what the map is like, before i begin the long boring proccess of the triggering. And, he dled the map fine and everything, but when we were meant to get into the startup menu, this is what popped up:
Error loading scenario file
The map could not be loaded because it had too many obstructions. Try widening corridors and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.
........Well that's totally pants. Is there any way I can make the map playable, without having to deface it? I like it exactly the way it is, and don't wish to mess with the terrain. Please Please help. Thankyou all.
Oh, and when the saving the map problems arose, for some reason the map size exploded from 70kb to 680kb ...no idea why. I did look at a few sound files in the wav editor at that time, but didnt even save the map after doing so. - Thought it may have input, so i added.
meh.. you should have had a back-up of your map
Yup, you probably placed some wrong units in another editor or somthing such as sprites, try removing them?
If you have the select scenario window open, XTRA won't let you save, same with staredit.
Can you replicate the problem and press printscreen please?
<solution>Open the map with winMPQ and delete (listfile)</solution>
As for the nooks and crannies thing, lots of people have run into that (just search the forum). There is probably one specific location in your map that is screwing up the pathfinding. Save a copy of your map as it is now, and then widen corridors one at a time. When you find the one that fixes the problem, change that one area on the original and then try to play it.
Okay, im about to go dl winMPQ and try that out.
I'll printscreen in un momento.
It's definetly not about unit placement, as i have copied the map, deleted every unit, doodad on it. Than i changed all the terrain to simply water. and than deleted all the triggers, and it still said it wouldn't save.
Well yeah, backups are now going to be the case. Mistakes are good if you learn from them.
I'd also suggest sticking to one editor (I'd recommand SCMDraft). Switching back and forth between editors, especially xtra, in general isn't a good thing to do.

Well you can't really say that because X-tra does have normal attributes but doesnt have any special Terraining boxes. You can still save a map from SCMdraft and open it in xtra for example. You can't make square terrain in xtra so scmdraft can and you can edit it from there. Some people don't like typing in the triggers so you can use the classic click and point way.
Also a map would crash in xtra is there is like invalid terrain or improper placements.
I would recommend to use scmdraft for everything besides mission briefing; I never meant to actually suggest using xtra, just not to switch back and forth between it and scmdraft or SF. Problems arise all the time from doing that.
Posting the map will be a good idea.
