Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Clueless: How To Make "fastest Money" Type Maps?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-08-07 at 19:09:18
I'm pretty lost here. I've always liked money maps, especially the notorious "Fastest Possible Map Ever," and I've always wanted to make a map with the same stacked, close-knit money setup that it has. I've never seen any alternatives to this map.

I know the focus in here seems to be UMS, but I've never been too much of a fan for UMS. I think I can assume that making such a money map is less than a peace of cake compared to the complex UMS maps that are focused on here.

So I need to see if someone can help me with this, and I'd really appreciate it. I downloaded several map-editors, but found StarForge to be the easiest to understand in working with my task. Nonetheless, I failed and can't seem to reproduce the mineral bases that are in Fastest. Can anyone explain to an ultra-n00b like me how this can be done?

I would be ecstatic to know.

You need to stack the minerals inorder for more than one worker to mine from them at once. In starforge select the mineral and right click it. Go to Stacking, then pick how many you want stacked. 25-50 depending on how many sets of stacked minerals you have.

Also make sure the minerals are owned by player 12 (SF will give you a warning if there not, and ask you if you want it to change them)

Yah But When I Stack Minerals I Have To Put Them Farther Than The One In "Fastest Possible Map" Is There A Specific Way I Can Put Them Any Closer?

You should probably change your grid settings to 16, 16.

Its all about placement, you have to put the minerals where they can be mined and the workers dont have to go anywhere to deposit them (by having the base building touching them) so the worker instantly goes back to mining. remember than you have to place gas correctly because the players have to build on them.

Yeah don't use SC-Xtra

This must be done with Starforge or SCM

SCM Draft 1, SCM Draft 2, or SCM ToolKit (they can all do stacked minerals)

Thx for the replies. Well I tried that in forge so far. I haven't tried SCM. But with forge, even with those settings set, I can't get the mineral to work correctly. I'll put it up against the base, and set all the settings, and save it correctly--but when I open the map there is no mineral. Do any of you know of this being a common problem?

1 word SC-xtra editor thats all there is to it or you can use scm draft or starforge but i think if ur going to make a fastest map you need sc-xtra editor it in the staredit editors section of the downloads rockon.gif

Edit:o sorry i didnt read posts before this i dot realy like starforge but there trigger system is alot easier just dont like the complicity sc-xtra pretty much does every thing for you but it cant stack pinch.gif well sort of

You have to be careful not placing them too close to the start location or I think the game removes them to place the command centre, nexus whatever.

First of all, after making this map in SCMDraft 1/2 or Starforge, DO NOT open it with another editor, and just save it.

Make sure that all players that will play have start locations, and that the minerals are not directly ontop of the start location, nor blocking all ways to place units after the start of the game, with this in mind it should work. Follow what was said before and all should work.

Remember to stack more than 1 mineral patch, if you only have one only 2 workers can mine on it.

Just set it so units can be placed on each other in a menu and then click in the same spot a few times mellow.gif
