Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Submitting some stuff

It's been awhile since I've posted in here (mainly because I just haven't worked up the energy to post anything). The things I am posting were designed with a heavy attention to preserving level and consistency (so yes, some of the "artsy" stuff is lost). But this is a minor loss, as the constant dimension twisting of other terrainers simply makes the terrain a distraction, not a functioning part of a map.

The Ruins of an Ancient City (traversed by boat)

The following are two possible building styles which I might end up using. I know the double level temple looks better, but it's harder to fit into an urban setting.

Imperial/Federal Building style:

A temple with a unhewn rock top:

And lastly, an experiment in gardening:

I know none of these are particularly spectacular, but it's all I've got for now. Tell me what you think.

Well. It sure is Wilhelm terrain...

The garden looks like one giant mess, 2/10.

The other three are blended to the best of your abillity, 8/10.
• Good design layout
• Well blended corners and transition pieces with a little blockiness
• Great sight patterns
• Excellent feel to areas
• Mostly uninteresting, overused blends

1 - very nice, I love stuff like this. 8/10 smile.gif
2 - Looks pretty good and well blended. 7/10
3 - I don't like this one because it doesn't look like a temple. 4/10
4 - puke.gif 1/10

Damn good in overall man. thumbup.gif

Same as others:

Trash the garden but the rest a sweet.

The garden was a throwaway piece, I just put a bunch of sprites over a weird blend.

It's not meant to be a temple, it was just the first thing I thought of to label it.

The big problem with these is that, admittedly, the blends are generally nothing particularly new or exciting. I hope to come up with some more interesting stuff, but I try to do things in the least roundabout way, and so alot of blends aren't really applicable with what I'm doing.

I've been trying to figure out how to merge stairs into a cliff wall, and this is the best I've done so far:

That staircase looks pretty freakin' sweet, although it lacks any practical purpose.

The underwater ruins: The only thing I could see to make this awesome is some sort of lower level structure that comes out right at water level. (Like the one lowground peice, but extended out from the temple walls.) Then the players, after traversing the city, land on that little jetty and enter some ruined temple thats half sunk.

Temple 1: Been there done that... Just a square.

Temple 2: Seen/Done it before too, although I like the mountain addition at the top. Now just blend another mountain near the bottom...

Garden: umm...

Stairs: If you could change the cliff tiles to make it the temple entrance doodad than it would rock, but its cool anyway.

The ramp into the cliff, isn't it possible to blend it with a cave or something, if that was possible it would be really really great!

Anyways, good terrain overall, but the pictures is too monotone, try to somewhat find other blends that's similiar but still make some difference to the picture.

Probably not with cave, but I believe the temple-y doors would work.

For the underwater city... Are the traps clickable? Cause that seems like a neat idea.

That can probably be used for maybe a Pokemon RPG, like in Red version when you come upon the two fossils.

The first three look great, pretty original in my book, havent seen any others like them but the garden needs a lot of work, it looks pretty bland.

So on the overall I would rate it a 8/10.

Great work mate.

Okay, I'm not going to say anything about the garden, since that has already had its story told oh wait... I just talked about it... confused.gif

I just had to say it..rofl

I bet the staircase has alot more potential to be something better than what you did with it, mess with it some more.
