Staredit Network -> Polling Booth -> Mute or not?

I'm finishing my The Thing map (finally) and I need to create an abandoned, confused and scary atmosphere. I have a background soundtrack that fits well and sets the mood right, but I don't know what to do with teh unit talkz.

So would you feel abandoned, confused and scared with units muted or not?

Definately mute!

Horror maps are best done when unit sounds aren't distracting you in every possible way, especially with eerie background music and shocking sound effects.

It depends on what is your map's environment. If your map has sounds or music and stuff then sure, mute it. But in a map without sounds or special need for silence the unit speech is good. Because constant silence is boring. tongue.gif

I'd say mute, because the main purpose is creating a scary atmosphere, the voices of Starcraft simply doesn't.

Definitely mute; I am so used to unit speech that when I play a map without it, I already feel distanced and creeped out tongue.gif

Same with DTBK, but not creeped out.

Actually, Doom 3 managed to be particularly eerie because it didnt have any background music, except for the occasional scream, whispering voices, etc...

I never played Doom 3, but how scary/eerie a map is really is just 80% opinion and 20% human psychological fear.
