Staredit Network -> Lite Discussion -> Fed up with your country?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by lonely_duck on 2006-10-25 at 20:50:01
I found this arguement on another forum and it sparked some interest with me. Basically, what the OP said in the other thread is that he was fed up with the U.S. and the Iraq war, and he felt immorally dirty supporting the war with his tax dollars. At that time, he decided to move to Canada for this very reason and started a discussion about it and such...
Personally, I think that is a horrible response to the situation, and thought he was weak for actually doing it. I would go into detail, but I'm feeling really lazy at the moment so I'll do it later...

Opinions?

Well, I'm unhappy with what the U.S. is doing, but I know that anything I pay in taxes supports it so little it doesn't matter (I don't actually pay taxes yet, but whatever). I like life in America, even though I'm not proud of America (I had a small discussion in class about this - someone said that because we like life in America, we should be proud to be Americans, and everyone else started asking why and he gave up), and (if I could) I wouldn't leave and change my life for something this petty.

I would commend the guy for moving when he got fed up with it. He stuck up for his desires and chose his personal happiness. I'm not saying moving was a good idea (he could've stayed and fought for change or whatever), but he still fought the system. There's probably millions more people who would love to do what he did and they're sticking around and complain without taking action because they don't have the guts or willpower to do something about their situations. One proactive mofo. I like it.

He could always join the regressive party. (Against abortions, for killing babies.)

If he is for those ideas, yeah.

Whether you leave a country like the US if you are fed up with it depends on whether you have any faith about its capacity to change.

Personally I have little faith in the sheep that make up this country and plan to perhaps leave here once I graduate from college (I have other reasons too).

I'm probably going to try to stay a resident of Alaska until our dividends get too small. Then I'm out to see the world, never to return until America fixes its problems. (Or some other force fixes it for them.)

I would leave a country because I want to make a life for myself that I think is better, rather than waiting for everything else to change around me.

I think America is better than Canada currently.

Only reason I would think of Leaving this country is not because of our government leaders, politics, or the stupidity of people in our country. But because of just the quality of the people in general; primarily our generation. I cannot name a single thing our generation is better at than our parents' generation. Infact, everything about our generation is worse than theirs, unfortunately.

Americans are dumb. By far you are living in the best quality of life in the world and you will deeply regret the fact that you will move to another country.
( You might... )
I.E) A person that did that won't have all the rights you would be having in America. It would take years to gain citizenship, and some still won't be able to fit in. On the brightside, the person will get to know your country is good and the person will be a douchebag for the rest of your life for the idiotic actions. If you think about it, jobs in U.S. are way better than the ones in other countries, even in Canada.
Being a American Soldier is a job, a choice.

Why are the citizens of the US always thinking we will lose this and that, when we have better technology, better army, better navy, better leader, and free will?

In my opinion, I think everyone should grow up and instead of whining about the war and how it's going, protesting, and moving to different countrys, they should find a way to help the troops.

If you're going to keep moving whenever you realize that the people in your country are idiots who flock to the most appealing lies, then guess what? You're going to moving for a long, long time, my friend.

It's alot easier to run away from issues than to really deal with them.

What.. the terrorits don't have free will? All those facts mean nothing against a foe who knows his home terrain and such. The british had the best navy, and the best army in the world... as well as an able leader. They lost. Iraq is a losing war, as Vietnam was.

Maybe you should grow up first and realize that Iraq is just another American graveyard. You wanna help the troops? Get them the hell out of there.

Whilelm, how does one legally deal with a very large amount (millions) of stupid people?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2006-10-29 at 20:48:12
Simple: pull them away from the other guy and put them under you.

Easier said than done. Much easier said than done.

What about the people who want to get away from their country, but don't want to be leaders?

If we get them outta there...Iraq would try to attack us. We need to contain Iraq until they stop killing our troops piece by piece.

I feel stupid now, since I only assumed from what other people said about Canada. When I assumed, I made an ass out of u and me :/
I'm just saying it based on my knowledge of living in America too, im living a decent life here.

Be proud. "If your family earns more than 10,000$ a month, you're probably living better than 80% of the world. Iam dead serious too."

If you think about it. I'd rather live in America than any other country if I were citizen and not dumb like others. Do you hear all the bad stuff in your country? Well guess what, all the people in other countries hear bad stuff in their country too and they probably feel the way you do to their country. Feel free to leave the country, because then smarter people may come in.

War in Iraq isn't a war. They just call it a war. I've never heard any details of the battles there or any related big details whatsoever. The conquering is over for the U.S. It's just getting rid of civil rebellions and etc. Ok, the America lost a few thousand soldiers in that war. Big deal! You ain't dead and it ain't gonna kill you.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2006-10-30 at 04:37:32
I honestly believe people are WAY too cynical of their countries, when it really isn't that bad. And being overly cynical is far worse than being a sheep.

Only reasons you would plan on leaving your country because it sucks would be the following:

- Your leader raises taxes to an excruciatingly high level.
- Your leader affects your everyday human rights, thus affecting the way you live your life currently.
- Your country wages a war which affects the land you live in
- You or your family's role in the economy is severed and thus you either have a poor job or no job period. And it's impossible for you to earn a living in your country when you need money.
- You or your kids are unable to get an education.

None of the above are applicable as of right now. Before you point at my second point and mention the Patriot Act, let me tell you this. I do not support the Patriot Act, but I do not criticize it because it does not affect the way I live. I can continue to live my normally without even knowing the Patriot Act exists. I'm sure almost all of you guys can too, so why the freak are you so worrisome or critical of the Patriot Act if it's never going to affect you if you continue to live the way you're living? Ok sure you can't yell "BOMB" in an airport but why the freak would you do something so stupid in the first place?
