My question is a simple one. What programs, and how, specifically, do you make skyscrapers?

Do mean skyscrapers as in the floor that "looks" like one? If so then just play around with the terrain.

Use Starforge or SCMDraft. Or something with decent custom square tiles.

Just place the tiles carefully and they should give an extended terrain effect and look like a skyscraper.

it takes a lot of patience but it's not that hard, hard part is patience.

Some creativity always help!

And maybe try making smaller buildings, houses, or flats! People like to live in flats, and work in Sky Scrapers!

You need 3+ different tiles to make 1 completed skyscraper.......one for one side, another for the 2nd side and 1 for the top.

make sure you don't have air units or make restrictions for air units because when they fly, they tend to "climb" your skyscraper.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2004-08-08 at 13:18:45
Air units don't "Climb" skyscrapers.
Extended terrain IE: Skyscrapers are very well placed square tiles.
The game reads the terrain's elevation as the same elevation of the tile.
The skyscraper may look like it's 10x's as high as temple terrain but it's actually the same elevation.
If you put a real long stairway to the skyscraper the game will act like the unit is climbing a stair and then it's starts climbing another one from the bottom.
Extended terrain is not a pshysical game feature that actually extends terrain many times the normal high terrain. it's just carefully placed tiles that trick your eyes into thinking something is real but is not.

Great thanks. At first I was fooled, and thought that somehow Yoshi had used illegal doodad placement with certain doodads to make that.

What are side tiles? Ah well, I'll figure it out.. sad.gif

Side tiles would constitute like the walls of the skyscraper... I would assume you know that. huh.gif

Normally it talks about bits of dooads that if used on normal terrain could be placed in either 2D direction and therefore face in two directions.

3 won't really work. You need 2 for the sides, one for the top, 4 for the top edges, 4 for the bottom egdes. That is if you want it to blend with the bottom though.

Is extended terrain in the Map Tricks and Help Archive?

No but square terrain is, If you can't put 1 and 2 together then maybe you should consider a differant hobby cause mapmaking isn't for you.

Your right, i just can't see how the concept is difficult. Any further help that should a sentance like this.

"You can use a varity of tiles from the master pallet to create new kinds of terrain patterns" Or something along those lines.

But honestly how can you know how to place sqaure terrain from the master pallet but not know how to make skyscrapers.

I know how to do it, never said I couldn't. I was just wondering so that if people asked we could just direct them to that.

I think you all interperted me wrong. Vindexus the statement wasn't directed at you. I'm sorry to answer your question and bash other mapmakers in the same sentance. I had no specific person in mind when i wrote "If you can't put 1 and 2 together then maybe you should consider a differant hobby cause mapmaking isn't for you." Poor grammar on my part i guess.

I do feel some people lack the creativity and common sence to become good mapmakers but I am not saying names.

PS. I should have not replied to this thread.

Bolt i agree with you on this one, not everyone should be a map maker and some people who are map makers shouldn't be map makers. But perhaps you should word it more tactfully next time. Of course being blunt sometimes never hurt too ( except all those times it does hurt ).
