City Scape Contest

To raise activity in our terrain forum I've decided to host a little terrain content. The theme will be city scape on badlands. I've done most of the known city scape methods till day and I would like to see any new blends or concepts. While some may think that everything has been done in badlands, it's so not true. I believe I've proven the opposite once already with this topic, and I think there are loads of more stuff to discover. thumbup.gif

Guidelines
 • Terrain must be made by you. Steal terrain and Moose will eat your children.
 • Must submit terrain either in images(.jpg or .png) or the whole map.
 • Images must be in the original zoom from editor or from ingame. But it is good to show how it looks in editor and ingame.
 • Images must be in best possible quality. If you're not sure how to get good quality out of .jpg, use .png instead. I don't need lame .jpg blurs over your blends.
 • You can submit as many images as you want to show the city scape you've made from many views. But you may submit only 1 city scape(1 map).
 • No entry fees.
 • You don't have to make a full working city, it would take weeks to make. A small piece of a city is enough. Like few streets crossing between like 5 or 6 buildings. You have to show all you skill and concepts in this piece of city. You can expand it if you fell like you need more.
 • Either PM me the images/map or post them up in this topic.
 • You can use units to improve the city environment.
 • You can use sprites, but by any means don't cover your blends with sprites. If I won't see the blends, I will consider that there are no blends under sprites.

Judging Criteria
There will be 2 judges. I and one volunteer hired by me. You can sign up for the spot but I will choose it at the end. I will judge everything.
 • Known blend usage.
 • New concepts and blends.
 • City-like environment
 • City scape content and layout. (buildings, streets, yards, parking lots..)
 • Building composition. (Shops, different window tiles, other decorations..)
By looking at all those factors I will give 1-70 points to the cityscape. The other judge will give 0-30 point rating for overall look of the terrain.

Prizes

I think the pot system will do just fine in there. I as the host will give away all my minerals I will have at the moment. Fell free to donate minerals by sending the to me. Because you know the system, "bigger pot = bigger prizes". happy.gif

1st place winner aka "Best City Scape 2006" - 60% of the pot

2nd place winner - 30% of the pot

3rd place winner - 10% of the pot

DEADLINE
After December the 24st I will no longer accept any terrain and will start judging all submissions.

This topic is not being updated. Check the news topic for updated info, the pot and donator list.

Of course you can make an entire map if you fell like it. But the size/amount of the city won't be rated, so a scene is enough. However if you manage to make a big city, I'll give you few points for your effort. tongue.gif

I know a few people in clan chef were interested in doing a destructable city terrain. When I can get some time I'll likely be helping with that. Would that count?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-10-31 at 09:54:43
Sure it would count. But in your place I would try to put all my skill into 1 single scene of city. I haven't posted my position about team projects so I guess you can have a terrain made by multiple people.

I will start with my blending after the 3:rd november, that's when my WoW pre-paid time goes out.

To everyone else, good luck! You will need it!

I felt like pinning this to make it all "official" or something.

Thank you for making it not restricted to badlands, I have a good idea for an area.
