Just trhow ideas into this topic for me, I'll need all the help I can get.
Thanks for helping.
well what kind of maps can you make... to what extent? magic system? level up hp system? world map? what!
Well....don't make terrain TOO crowded....or it won't look too good
Don't use square terrain in the part of the map in which the players control their characters unless you're trying to achieve a specific effect (skyscrapers, etc.). It detracts from the atmosphere of the the map.
Dont forget to add flavorful doodads. Maps with no doodads and isom are boring...
Try and make the terrain fit the atmosphere of the game; this is the most important part of terrain for anything, just like the music.
So if it is a marsh land theme, have a mix of impassable terrain and small paths to follow which are not perfectly straight or such but bent and crooked.
You must make the terrain yourself, think about what kind of theme you want, we can't, just look at your RPG and decide what you want the terrain, atmosphere and gameplay to be like and work from that. If it is about small conflicts of units then the gameplay should make for small terrain areas and close quarter skirmishes, not massive areas of terrain with nothing in it.
My weakness in mapping is Terrain.
Well could someone send some good cave/dungeons for me? Thanks again.
