I am a very proud Mac user. I just got a 17" MacBook Pro and love it to death, and yes, this is my first Mac. However, now that I have it, I see all the conveniences of it, and refuse to ever go back to Windows machines.

I want to hear what you have to say about this.

Windows or Mac and why.

I know macs are better, but it's juts that everybody uses Windows that we got viruses and crap. Since nobody uses Mac, they're really safe...

They both have their relative advantages and disadvantages.

You'll want Windows for a gaming platform and general compatibility with the world, and a Mac for anything else.

The UNIX kernel of Mac OS X pwns Windows' kernel though. Much more stable, easier to use and versatile. You can do pretty much anything from the command line.

Soooo, you windows people got me beat when it comes to initial price for the computer, but still, I think I payed for the lack of problems that i will have with it. We'll see.

BTW: You windows people can beat me on price with one of ur crazy Voodoo gaming computers lol.
I went on the site and got my "Omen" up to $26,000 somethin!!!! ROFL

Well, considering I can't put my own Mac together, and they are too expensive for me, I would prefer a Windows/Linux based machine over a Mac. I'm not going to argue over operating systems, because it's really what you need/prefer. But good luck getting a 500 dollar Mac to outperform a 500 dollar Windows/Linux based PC.

WAIT, I DON'T THINK YOU CAN BUY A MAC FOR 500 DOLLARS!

And hey, I bought a PC and have yet to pay for "fixing problems"

I would buy it again just for GarageBand. I even convinced Woodenfire (Brett) to get a MacBook. GarageBand is really helpful since we play guitar together all the time and are makin our money doin it. Mac is great for any type of A/V editing or recording in general.

I'm assuming this, but I bet there is an equivilent program for Linux or Windows :\

(Usually is :\, but maybe it's not as good, I wouldn't know..)

Macs never freakin crash. Everything goin on with the programs is seperate. If by some fluke something actually does freeze, which i have never experianced on this mac, but if it does you hold down your click over the icon on the dock and click force quit. There is none of that: if something freezes you might as well just restart the computer now, like there is with windows. Not to mention, I dont have a single icon on my screen and i have 6 things in my dock. I use a program called quicksilver. all i do is hit ~apple Key~ and the up arrow, and a little translucent window pops up and i type like the first three letters of the program im lookin for and it instantly finds it and u hit enter, no icons needed. I love the freeness of it altogether, not to mention the little trivial things like haveing your wallpaper change ever minute to somthing else or your entire screen turn like a cube to another desktop like your screen turned to another side of a cube to reveal a new desktop. ( I love that one, its called desktop manager)

Mac Roxorz

Go windows!

Cheap computers = win!

And it looks pretty (hacked it and installed a neat theme) and it runs EVERYTHING and it doesn't crash.

If Mac's could run games as well as Windows, I'd go with Macintosh for sure. Everything seems much cleaner. But since I don't want to go through the trouble of getting everything to work there, I'll stay with a Windows machine.

You can run Windows on a mac computer!

Linux is only good for servers, I don't think it's any good for anything else.

For the amount of money that you paid for your computer you could have found a much better PC. I haven't tried out the new Macs and their OS X's but I'm sure they are great. I love the compatibility of Windows. Is it worth paying 3000$ more just so that you don't crash (even though I rarely crash)? I heard you can't run .exe's on Mac's either. I still would like to try out a Mac, even though it seems to be copying a lot of Windows ideas and has even fallen as low to run thier competitors OS X on a Mac. You don't see Microsoft running Mac's OS X on Windows.

Because it's illegal and runs very bad on AMD based processors.

Brutetal brought up a great point that Mac can now run Windows. Even though I almost see that as a sacrilege, it can be done—and it works quite well (yup, ive seen it). When Windows OS is put on Mac, it runs side-by-side with it, instead of over it. So, you can have the compatibility of Windows, with the stability of Mac OSX or the newer, even more refined, Mac OS Leopard to fall back on. Nowadays I really don’t see a reason not to get a Mac. I mean, 5 years ago or later I could understand, for compatibility reasons why you wouldn’t but since OSX and now Leopard has come out Mac is finally catching up to the Microsoft powerhouse.

Not to mention, software manufacturers do see the overwhelming success of Mac over the past 5 or so years particularly with the iPod, but Mac’s fingers stemming from its own sphere of influence have managed to touch many, many regions of electronics—and quite quickly might I add. This isn’t getting overlooked by companies either, but rather being taken advantage of, because it’s such a vast, booming field that gives electronics companies another outlet to be creative, and make more money. I also saw a statistic that within 5-8 years Mac is expected to be equal to or have surpassed its powerhouse rival: Microsoft. (Now, i dont have these statistics off hand, but ill have to dig them up again.) What it boils down to is, it’s not all about Windows anymore.

Now, all you Windows users, im not bashing you by any means. I myself was a Windows user for 16 years of my life. However, what I realized was that when I got this MacBook Pro, it only took me a week to realize that this is much, much better. I think that speaks with a lot of reverence.

REASON NOT TO GET MAC: Can't put it together yourself, customizing parts...
Price.. =\

And when running Windows on a Mac... it's just like running Windows on a Windows based computer... just clearing up anything, I think there is a bit of confusion, might just the wording.

And these "statistics" or whatever, I don't believe. If any OS is going to take off in my opinion, it would be Linux(based... Linux is a kernel.). At least relatively(as in say, doubling in users... but still not near as many as Microsoft..).. because it is still a bit difficult to get used to for most people..

Actually Windows copied ideas from Apple's original OS, which Apple had already copied from a piece of software coded by Xerox.
