http://texasborderwatch.com/

It lets you watch the border from webcams. It's still in development, so that's why there are only 8 cameras right now. I think it's still a pretty cool way to protect the border. What say you?

I'm not too excited about watching something I can't stand and being unable to stop it. tongue.gif I might as well be watching MTV.

It lets you report suspicious activity, so border patrol can get on them. It'd probably be better to check out at night when they mexicans are trying to cross. Maybe you'd even be able to see an arrest or something.

Anyway, it requires IE, so drop the Fx if you want to go watch.

I could see this failing as people who are in support of the crossing of illegal immigrants could simply spam the border patrol's hotlines so that the border patrol would not know which calls were reliable and which ones weren't. I also think it would be more effective for an actual border patrol agent or border watch group to have one person monitor the cameras (as there are only eight right now).

Where they would soon be IP banned, I think that this would help the border patrol greatly. There a re far more people against crossing of the border than others trying to cross, I like this idea.

Mexican crosses the border.
Mexican sees camera.
Mexican breaks camera.
Mexican: LAWLS NUT ONLI AMI ILLEGALZ BUT I COSTZ MUNEYZ TU!
Mexican signals friends to come over.
Border patrol arrives only to see that they all crossed.

Seriously, this is just a desperate attempt in favor of dumb ideals. Are you going to clean the bathrooms at your McDonald's? Are you going to go pick up the thrash rolling around with a garbage truck? Are you going to go clean the sewers? No. There are many other jobs that a vast majority of Americans wouldn't take, they'd rather be unemployed than do those jobs.

Illegal inmigrants work for very low wages, yet you complain because there are American citizens which are unemployed. Why don't you go work for a lower wage and "steal" the jobs from the Mexicans? You are unemployed anyways, so there are ZERO drawbacks, you get to do something and get a little bit of money. You can even do this while looking for a better job.

Illegal inmigrants come here for only one reason, and that is to have a better life. So many are coming because they are succesfull, they get jobs for very low wages and they don't pay taxes. All this happens because you, the American society, let them do it, and they'll keep coming in greater numbers and in higher education levels. The American economy cannot function without this. I recently read that 5.5% of Americans able to have a job are unemployed. How many illegal inmigrants you think there are working? I definetly know that it's more than that 5.5% simply because age doesn't matter, they start working once they're about 13 years old brooming floors and cleaning toilets so that you return to the place and keep buying. In essence, by using their services directly or indirectly, you are supporting them wether you like it or not.

Instead of trying to stop them from crossing the border, which is simply impossible because you CAN'T WATCH THOUSANDS OF MILES OF LAND at any given time, you'll just be spending money making the Mexicans choose a different route by which to cross. It would be much better for the economy that you take all these inmigrants and grant them citizen status, visas or at least legalize them. They'll still cross the border, they'll still work for very low wages, why not take them in? Costs very little to keep them here and they work the same amount of work for less, how can that be bad?

And for those saying that it is inmoral, illegal and such. Is it inmoral to deny someone the chance for a better life? Is it inmoral to send soldiers to Iraq for an unjust cause? Is it illegal to distribute illegal drugs, by which most of them are American citizens? Is it illegal to discriminate against any group of people? You can argue all you want, but there are far more illegal and inmoral situations caused by the people against illegal inmigrants.

It is also illogical to agrue that they are taking away the right for Americans to be equal. The government doesn't promote equality among it's citizens in the first place, it'll care far less about it's illegal inmigrants. Proof? I am an American citizen by birth, I have the age to vote, I am 18 years old, but I am not allowed to vote for the President of the United States of America. Which country that promotes equality doesn't allow a group of it's legal aged citizens to vote for for it's leader?

You need to fix your own internal problems first before you go externally.

Why are you guys against Illegal Immigrants? They did nothing to you. The only people they steal jobs from are people who are high school drop outs or student workers.

Yeah, I still don't see why people are so against illegal immigrants either. It's not like they cross into the United States just out of spite or something. They cross because Mexico is such a crappy place to live that they'd rather risk being caught by the americans than go on living there. They're escaping. I really think the United States would be better off trying to make new jobs for mexican immigrants than trying to keep them out. They'd be helping a lot of people that way.

I disagree on making new jobs for them because there are hundreds of jobs they can take. Like construction, delivery, pushing and carrying heavy objects.

They can possibly have them in the air on towers and such, or possibly put more than one looking at the same area in different Directions. They could shoot one, Then have many others watching still. Having a depth of cameras is a good idea. Like when they get past the first cameras, a call comes in and there are many cameras behind that one so you can always watch them. This allows the border patrol to get to where they are heading before they do.

If a lot of cameras are broken, bullet proof glass is a good way to fix this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EcHo on 2006-11-07 at 18:34:27
I doubt Bullet Proof Lenses are good for cameras. The Mexicans don't even break the cameras because they cant reach it or see it.

I don't see why you guys are complaining about illegal immigrants if they barely even affect it.

I am just saying because BeeR KeG said that there would be a lot of broked cameras. You can see throug billet proof glass, so the picture would be fine. Also ya obviously illlegal immigrants are a big deal or they wouldnt be illegal and also theyn would be trying to crack down on them with this site!

I find it funny that everyone eas against it before beerkegs post, then after everyone seemed to defend it. What is that? I dont understand why people are like that. So easly molded to what other people want. Its kinda funny

I am against it AND I am for it.

I am against them comming over illegaly and not paying taxes (witch would give the people more money to spend on things like PAYING OFF THE NATIONS DEPT)

But I AM all for them comming over, getting a green card and makeing improvements on there life.

I dont care that they are here, as long as they try to fit in and better themselfs. I had a job "stolen" from me by a mexican once. But he was smarter, stronger, faster, and had better work ethics. I actualy took that guy out for a beer cus he earned it. Not cus he offerd to get paid half of what I was makeing (he ended up with double).

But anyway.....

No, that just means someone thinks they're a big deal. I mean, if burning the american flag wasn't a big deal, it wouldn't be illegal, right? NOT.

The taxes from a guy who's making $5 an hour... yes, that's going to be a lot. Someone making half the so called "poverty rate" is not going to pay a very significant amount of taxes. Do you realize how many American citizens have high paying jobs that off the books and thus not taxes? You'd get far more tax money from them.

Work with what you have, not what you wish you had. If they live in the U.S., they should pay taxes. I don't care how little, especially if they're here illegally. It's the thought that counts.

About the breaking or damaging cameras we've recieved here. Most of you assume that they'd be shot. There are far more efficient ways by which to destroy a video camera.

You can burn it easily, possibly by use of a molotov grenade or by any other means.
A large stone may be thrown, thus damaging the camera.
Easily homemade chemical solutions, like acids may damage the circuits.

The cameras may be placed upon a large metal or cement pole, but those can easily be brought down by a homemade bomb, blow torch and plasma guns and a high powered saw.

Theoretically, if it can be built, it can be broken.

My question is why would someone go to all that trouble to break something (espesialy if its on a high metal pole or whatnot) if they don't need to? all they have to to, if there worried about someone seeing there face, is cover it. and if they REALLY wanted too, they could just run one direction, through the cams, and then take off in another direction to avoid getting caught.

Or they can do what they have been doing, and just run across the border, find there friends house, and start a life. A camera is not going to stop anyone from getting what they REALLY want. I feel that all we can really do, is just accept them into our lives, and hopefully get along. If push comes to shove, we could always merge with mexico. then everyone would be american !! EVERYONE WINS!!! biggrin.gif

It's an act of defiance.

And Beer's opinion matters more then most people's because he's usually right.

I never said that he was wrong. I asked a question. asking a question dose not say " Hey! YOUR WRONG!!" It says, "Hey, this is my oppinion and I would also like to see what everyone thinks about it". And beers oppinion dose not matter more than anyone elses. yes, ye IS right most of the time, but his oppinion holds just as much weight as anyone elses, unless it is on a topic that he has studied in for years.

The reason for this is a bit complex. You see USA placing all these resources into stopping these people from crossing the border. A logical theory can be drawn from the facts that if it's too costly, they'll use less effort into stopping them from getting in and may eventually just accept them.

You are right in a way though, they may just run right through, but if the border patrol uses it's experience, they will place the cameras at several key intervals and catch the inmigrants when they are at the last few camera spots. Which brings me back to my initial theory of destroying the cameras and the economical effects which are brought by it.

Or hey, we could just build a wall! No wait, the democrat congress would never let such a thing get through. Not that it would have gotten through the old congress anyway, but not it's a definate no.

Now, lets say we build a wall. It saves us the money of having to replace cameras every other day. And if it's effective enough, it may even allow us to cut back on the number of border patrol agents.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-08 at 22:29:47
Someone would go through the trouble of smashing the camera maybe because they figure the more problems they cause for the U.S. the better and they have a better chance of reaching hiding.

The cameras are a change for the better in our society. I hope they don't cost too much though and that people will actually watch them.
