Hey all,

Valug and I, as the new mods for the slow melee forum, would like to hold a map contest. We want to get the forum active and get some new playable maps in there. It is gonna be laid back and fun, after we choose maps, we will hold a weekend tourney sometime in late November.

Requirements
Maps due November 22 (Thanksgiving in U.S.)
Maps no larger than 128x128
Keep it limited to 2,3 or 4 start locations.
Maps made in the last few weeks are allowed but don't submit maps that you haven't worked on in a while.

Other than that not much, just try to make a balanced map if you're a newb. Don't steal maps. You can submit multiple maps, but try to just submit better ones, use your own judgement on that.

As of now, Moose, Valug and I are judges.

Rewards
1st- 500 minerals + map will be in tournament.
2nd- 250 minerals + map will be in tournament.
3rd- 100 minerals


Important: Since so few people are posting thier maps in the melee forum for advice and, frankly, maps coming in aren't great, it is now required that you post the maps in the melee forum. Indicate that it is for the contest.

Also, are you giving out mineral prizes? If so, I might donate around 75 . It sounds good, and it will bring some activity to melee. Good luck with it!

Are we allowed to add observer slots? Or does that go against the <4 start locations rule?

Whatever you say, I could always just add an obs slot in if I wanted to.

I'm sure you're allowed to have an observer version of the map -.- Just make sure you do it properly (there's a guide here).

I'm making a map. Its going to be very very different but I'm sure you'll all like it.

Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the judges through it for scoring but it still will be cool. I'm about 2/3 of the way done. I am not going to show a screen shot for my various reasons.

Is it a map where almost all of the terrain is sectioned off with minerals? ...Cause that's just about the only thing I havn't seen yet that I think you'd be capable of

Well, I have made that map before believe it or not, but no its not. Its going to be really cool and original. Well, I don't know if its original but its the first I've seen of its type. Not stupid (pointless) like that.

One thing is for sure, this map will favor terran over any other race by far just because of the concept.

Hmmm, maybe I should try to make the worst melee map ever, what would it be, a start location over water?

On a more serious note, I won't be participating unless either I decide that I should try making a melee map, or something really darmatic happens in between now and then (i.e. getting frozen in time, and having nothing to do for 10,000,000,000 years as the next day goes by)

well i like this so i'll be making a map for sure and it'll be good, I've always wanted to make a really good melee map.

I'm just finishing a map right now...but...it's actually a movie, not a game...will that not work for this?

o.o... It's a melee map contest. IE: It must be playable under the 'melee' setting.

How about a Warcraft map? Or a UMS map, or a mod?

I began on a new map this weekend so I'll try complete it before the deadline
May aswell donate a few minerals for a prize (just PM me about it).

Didn't take me very long to finish this map... I did it instead of my 10 page mid-term paper today!

Shhhhh! Don't tell me! I know there are spacing issues and I plan on fixing them up before I turn in the map.

Submit here. But I suggest, for all of you really, that you put maps in the melee map forum as well. That was kinda the point. So if you have a submition, put it in the melee section too, please.

I might make a melee map for the contest if I find some free time, although I mostly make UMS maps.

I wish I could play 10000000000 years of StarCraft every day! o.O I probably wouldn't even get bored, either...

Does this contest offer any other benefit of winning? Aside from the showcasing of our map and the tournament that will be using it? You'd probably get more people to join if you offered more incentives.
