Is there a way to start with units inside the dropship? Or do you have to create the units and put them in first? And Can you put more than 8 Marines in the dropship?

You cannot preplace units in a Dropship, and you cannot have more than eight small sized units in a Dropship at any one time, much as you cannot have more than four units in a Bunker.

The best way of placing them, is to have a Preserved Trigger runing that uses the Ai Script, order all units at this location into dropships and such. Then have the units under the location and the dropship above and they will go straight into it. With hyper triggers this is done even faster, and you can centre the location over the dropship so wherever you go you will load into it.

they didn't, they had to load them first or it appeared like it was loaded when they jus tplayed the sound and created the unit there.

Okay, It seems too easy but, I guess it works either way... It would have been cool to pre-load units inside a dropship.
