ADMIN/MODS - BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING I AM NOT ASKING FOR SOURCES, OR SHARING SOURCES. Please don't misinterpret the question.

Now that thats out of the way, the question.
Do you use torrents or other ways to download? Are you against the use of these? Do you even know what it is?
I use them from time to time, and I am not against the use of them. They are simply a very effecient way to download things, be it illegal or legal.

Your thoughts?

Yeah I use torrents most of the time to download stuff. It is alot safer than limewire and it is quicker because you can get a whole cd at once instead of looking for all the tracks

and THAT is a reason this topic might be locked. Please do not name any programs or sources, and dont mention any illegal things you might download.

A simple yes or no and your opinion is enough.

Than this could just be in the null catagory since lite discussion is to discuss the topic not just say yes or no

Download rate is extremely slow and it is also a tracker. I would never use it and a 40 years old man that lives in his parent's basement made this. Why would you trust his program?

I'm not saying dont discuss it, just refrain from saying anything that will get you banned/warned.

EcHo, do you have even the faintest idea what you're talking about? Torrent systems have been implemented into many highly legitimate programs, also, there are more torrent clients than you could hope to count, claiming that they're all untrustworthy is simply illogical. As for download speed, I'd love to see you get speeds upwards of 2000 kbps on a free download server, torrents are capped in speed only by your connection speed, and by the number of seeds and peers. I have personally experienced download speeds above 2000 kbps from well maintained torrents.
Many legitimate groups use bittorent technology, here are just a few of them:
Blizzard: (All WoW patches are delivered via torrent)
Grisoft: Free edition of their anti virus program is distributed via bittorent.
The Ubuntu foundation: Their linux distros are all available via bittorent.
Also, just to clarify what the benefits of torrents are to those who don't know:
Torrents allow for a file to be downloaded without any single host, instead seeds (users who have completed their download), and peers (users who are also downloading the file, but may have different sections of it) all upload the file to you. While you are downloading one section of the file, you are sharing the other sections of the file with your peers. After completing a download, the "charitable" thing to do is to leave the file seeding, so that you contribute to the torrent. Essentially, they allow for free distribution of files that actually becomes faster as more users download.

I usually use it to download movies and such to see if they're actually worth it to buy. Or if I missed a TV episode of some series, people upload the episodes. The speeds are pretty good, just need to choose not to use a dead torrent...

Besides, it's legal here biggrin.gif

Blizzard uses a torrent system to give people updates to World of Warcraft. If any of you play that game, you're using torrentz!
