Staredit Network -> SCMDraft -> Error 0xc0000005
Report, edit, etc...Posted by green_meklar on 2006-11-07 at 23:55:12
All of a sudden I'm getting an error 0xc0000005 when I try to open SCMDraft. It worked okay before, it just started doing it now. Does anyone know what this error means or how I can solve it?

Oh, and while I'm here I have one more, unrelated question. Under what conditions, besides multiplayer, would 'There is no cow level' not work? I know this is the wrong place for this question, but I don't want to create millions of threads and then be seen as a spammer. :\

Try 2 things
1: Creating a new profile
2: Renaming the backup database file in scmdraft directory

If its the second then send me the bad file so I can fix it, if its the first we'll have to see about getting me the profile.

Oh and make sure you dont have any virii or spyware infecting your computer

Impossible. I can't even get into the program at all. It gives the error even before it comes up with the profile window.

Renaming it to what?

Hmm...I guess I can find a way to do that.

Scanning my entire computer might take a while. sad.gif However, I scanned my StarCraft and SCMDraft directories and AVG didn't find anything.

Renaming it to anything else, however if it suddonly crashes before it even opens the profile window I would think its nothing to do with scmdraft, before the profile it doesn't do anything besides load settings out of the registry etc

Well, I tried opening it just now, and it worked again. Which is very odd. I'd still like to know what could cause this, because as far as I know it could go bad again at any point. Does anyone with some real programming skill know what '0xc0000005' indicates?

Things that can cause that:
virii
spyware
bad ram
overclocking
overheating
[100000 other issues]

I don't think my computer has any problems with overclocking or overheating, and so far my RAM seems to be working fine for all other purposes. The StarCraft and SCMDraft directories also contain no viruses that AVG Free Edition can detect. :\

Okay, now a new problem with SCMDraft. I made a briefing in the Campaign Editor, edited the map with SCMDraft, changed the briefing slightly (I had forgotten to add mission objectives, as usual), and ran it.

No briefing. None. At all. Zip. Nada. So, what am I doing wrong? This is the text I added to the briefing:

Mission Objectives("- Blah blah blah");
Wait(800);

That's copy+pasted right from the editor, with the exception of the actual text, which to my knowledge contained no characters that would have bugged it (and yes, I know about the ^N thing or whatever it is for paragraphs, no that either). Can someone enlighten me on this?

Earlier versions of SCMDraft had dysfunctional briefing editors, but has been fixed in a recently released version. -- Download SCMDraft2 0.7.0!

Okay, I downloaded that and tried it. Wow. The briefing asked me for at least one condition when I tried to edit it (there was no condition tab at all), and still didn't work, and some text I had display during the game didn't display either.

That's a newly-discovered bug caused by compiling the briefing in the text-based mission briefing editor. It's easily fixed by re-creating the briefing triggers and using only the Classic Mission Briefing Editor or vise versa.

Okay then...

Also, I seem to be having some problems with victory triggers, too. My friend and I have both made maps that just plain won't end in victory, even when the conditions are satisfied beyond all doubt. This is not even an SCMDraft-only problem, either, the Campaign Editor seems to do it some of the time too.

Mind posting such a map?

I may be able to, but I can't guarantee it.
