I put this here because people that view this forum will know how to help me more.
Well I bought a desktop computer from my school. It is pretty old. I dont know anything about it, except that it runs and was cleaned everyday. Nothing is on it excpet Windows 98. I want to upgrade it, would it be worth paying some money for some extra ram or buying the XP edition for it. It is an Acer and I bought it for 15 buck which is a steal so I had too.
What do you plan to use this $15 computer for?
anything i want, maybe SC, Prolly some regular bots and some aol. Making SC games, mainly to hold a 24/7 bot on a channel. What are some things that I could buy to upgrade?
SC works perfectly well on Win 98, that's the platform it was targeted for I believe. Can you give some specs on the cpu power of your computer? XP should not be used with less than 1ghz, 128 ram, and 10 gig hard drive.
For anything SC, Windows 98 is good enough. I don't know for AOL though.
I dont know anything about it. I havent set it up yet, because I havent bought a desk for it yet. I dont think it has 1 ghz though. I know it has 128 ram and more than 10 gig hard drive. But I dont know exactly!

I think it was targeted for 95/98 actually and as for aim an older v should work fine but triliron might not

That isnt bad for 15 bucks
Sell it on ebay for $50. Other then that, worthless.
Yes, I was thinking about trying to get some profit out of it, or just giving it to one of my friends. I know a lot of friends that only have one computer at home and that one is junk or it has tons of crap on it or a virus has demolished it. idk, I lost interest in fixing it up.
Go to Run, then put in DXDiag for you system specs.
You should probably sell it on ebay, and thent ry to get something cheaper.

You must have missed that I said I did not set it up, because I am waiting for a desk. But yes, I know how to get the specs of the computer. What do you mean get something cheaper?
If it can run Starcraft without lagging, then I wouldn't sell it if I were you. It'll be worth it when you invite friends over.
You have to know more about the computer than it's processor's clock speed and hard drive in order to find out what computer you have. Download Everest Home edition (google) and then look at like the main overview, and copy and paste it here. I can explain more to you about the computer if you do that.
I am looking for a desk tomorrow, If I dont find one then I will buy it over the internet and get it in about a week or so. But ya, I already have a desktop and my laptop that would be sweet, 3 people playing at a time.
You can have a desk and a Beowulf cluster if you look in enough trash
I would download one of those stripped operating systems. They're very light on resources. After that i would try overclocking.

What, if I look in trash I can find what now?
I havent set it up yet beacuse I am still working on my room. I am sure it will be up before christmas. If not, not too long after. I hope it isnt after.
You could format the drive several times and try running a light Linux distro for a development computer.
Xubuntu is neat to resources, and I'm sure it could run DSL or Flash Linux.
EDIT- Omg 1,111th post! Again!
I think you'd be better off putting 98SE on it, if you want it to play your favorite game, Starcraft, which a Linux OS wouldn't be able to do(Well, if at all through emulation)
