MAP DESCRIPTION

Basically its an arcade game based on the "Rocket Mania" flash game featured on PopCap.com. There are 25 boxes (see screenshots) with randomized "L" or "I" formations that you have to connect in order to get power (characterized by a Scourge) from the left side to the right.

You get 2 minutes to attempt to connect the "fuses." Once the fuses are connected, a Scourge runs across the path to reach the other side of the terrain. As the Scourge goes along the path, you recieve points based on the length of time it takes to get there. More time equals more points. Less time equals less points.

To turn the "L" and "I" formations, the player casts a Distrupion Web above the square he or she wants to rotate. When two or more squares are connected, they switch to the color teal. When squares are connected to the starting point (the power source), they become yellow.

After five rounds, the player with the most points is the winner, and the game ends.

UPDATES
    11/13/2006
  • Added web triggers for A3, A4, A5, and B1.

    11/12/2006
  • Column "A" is complete.
  • Finished all the "Fuse" triggers, powering the lines.
  • Fixed the "line test" triggers.
  • Fixed the "Power" and "Unpower" triggers.
  • Found a bug regarding linking horizontally and vertically. Will fix later.

    11/11/2006
  • Squares A1, A2, and A3 are complete.
  • Fixed "Link" and "Unlink" triggers.

    11/10/2006
  • Project started.
  • Began testing "Link," "Unlink," "Power," and "Unpower" triggers.

I was told that my description was confusing, so to better understand what I'm trying to achieve, check out the original game here: http://popcap.com/launchpage.php?theGame=rocketmania.

How are you making this Dev? I thought you were a mac user?

I am. I made the terrain with IanMM's XEdit. All the triggers are being done in StarFire Edit.

For those who have played the game, I'm not adding a feature for bonus points yet. In the flash game, you can get extra points for connecting specific tubes, but I'm not sure if I want to add this. Maybe I will, later, but for now it will be more simplistic.

I stopped on that for a while because the random path wasn't working at all, and it annoyed me. I'll go back to it, but not until I finish this map.

Yeah, I decided to make a logo that actually shows gameplay rather than something fancy.

Oh yeah, why didn't I think of that? Basically I ended up just copying all the triggers from the map you sent me, and attempted the grid system with Medics (since they had to be 1x1 squares). It didn't work to say the least.

For that system you need player 6,7 and 8 to be computer and 7 and 8 have to be in the same force. That is what im thinking the most common problem would be if you want to finish the map with that system and what I said doesnt work ill help you fix it

Hmm okay. I think I only had two computers, but I can add another one. And why is it they need to be in the same force?

I played the Rocket Mania browser game and I loved it. Can't wait to be able to play this one. biggrin.gif

I'm attempting to make this as exact as I can to the actual game. The major differences are that there may not be powerups, there are less rows, and I only used two of the four shapes from the game.

I added some update info to the main post. Also I'm thinking about new ways to tweak the gameplay. Perhaps five rounds isn't enough?

Hehe, this is a fun game. Looking forward to playing the map.

That would be interesting... Hard to pull off though tongue.gif

So wait, are you adding the thing so if you use specific rockets multiple times, they get more powerful and award more points? That would be nice.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-13 at 13:52:26
I was thinking about it, but since I plan to make this multiplayer, I don't know if I should. Essentially my multiplayer idea is that you get 2 minutes to complete a chain. If you complete it in less than a minute, you get a bonus round, which will add bonus points to the missile you last fired. Then the next player gets a chance, and so on.

Any better ideas for multiplayer compatibility? I mean if need be, I could try to make it more like the game and have level goals for points, but i figured playing with others would be more fun.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EcHo on 2006-11-13 at 15:17:00
If you were to make this multiplayer, you would have to probably make 2 parts and double the location :/
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-13 at 15:18:50
Well I was going to make it turn based, since each turn only takes like 1 or 2 minutes. There is no way I could double the location.

Got a question for you Dev. How are the triggers working? Can you enlighten me at all?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Urmom(U) on 2006-11-23 at 01:24:54
Yes, I'm interested in the progress for this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-11-23 at 11:46:52

ps, if you need a tester wink.gif you know who to call biggrin.gif
