Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-18 at 00:21:48
Since I had to redo my map for this month's contest, I completely started over with a new idea. But I'm having issues with a particular part of my map.

Here's the terrain:

Here's what I need help with:

Disregard the water behind that small area and the mountainside (I am going to edit those after I figure this little bit out. And yes, I know a lot of it is blocky. I'm still learning.

Oh, and don't give me crap for making a waterfall. Just leave it be.

I'd suggest just putting a big sprite over it tongue.gif. Seriously one sprite isn't a big deal, it's when people start using like 30 per blend that it's excessive mellow.gif

Edit: BTW I like the terrain it looks neat.

Thanks.

I was thinking about that, but I wont be able to add it until I'm completely done with the map and I hijack a friend's computer for final SF additions (we can't add sprites on Macs). Any terrain-related solution you can think of?

Yes Yes hex edit I do. just I'm if you need some help.

Man.. I must say I really admire you mac users for attempting terrain with such crapty working conditions. I can put sprites in for you wherever you want in the final version, just PM me.

Edit: Just so you know why I'm not offering to do the terrain, I suck at extended terrain tongue.gif

Thank you you're very kind, but I'm going to add sprites in so... the editor will have sprite.

Fix the horrible looking cliff. wink.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-18 at 03:27:50
The cliff above the cave? I already fixed it. biggrin.gif

Seriously is there a way to fix that corner without sprites, as in a fabulous blend of terrain that perhaps someone else has already done?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-11-18 at 03:32:42
Try to corner it a bit sooner, maybe. tongue.gif

Yeah I tried that, too, but it just makes it seem as if the bridge has chunks unnaturally cut out of it. Talk about blocky! Geez!

You might try something like this:

Not perfect, just a suggestion and you would still have to find a nice transition from high to low, but I imagine this to be easier than in your case.
So maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't happy.gif

Not bad, not bad.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-18 at 13:38:11
Awesome, thanks a lot! I'll try it out now and post my results afterward, in case anyone can then figure out how to fix the new issue that will come up.

EDIT:

There ya go. What do you think?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by spinesheath on 2006-11-18 at 14:13:33
nice smile.gif there are some sharp lines, but it definately is better than before happy.gif
Well, I like it. It looks a bit as if the bridge was leading upwards tongue.gif

Oh man, this needs some work. Show me the map in person, I will fix it up for you and you can post the screenshot...

Additionally : I see that your using my Siege Dyne II blending partially... O:
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-18 at 15:27:22
Yeah, your map basically inspired me to attempt something similar for this month's contest (instead of defending the mountain, though, you're attacking it).

I think I easily can fix it, if you make a brush of the whole thingy and then post the part on the map and maybe I can touch it up a bit. Those tecniques that those other people are using doesn't seem to work that well.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-19 at 16:26:31
I used a modified version of GUEdit to make this on my Mac. No version of StarForge exists for Mac users. Therefore, I cannot make a brush and post it.

I PMed Wooden about his offer, and have yet to get a response. Because the cliffs and such are based on a map he made, I think I'll just let him help me with it if he still wants to. Thanks for the offer, though.

Well, okay then, it's your call. Good luck anyways.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by NerdyTerdy on 2006-11-19 at 22:02:36
Well if he doesn't help you out I personally think it looked better with the cut off and just placing a big sprite over it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-20 at 00:54:56
Yeah I can always change it back if need be and place a sprite on it. I was just hoping to get somethig more blend-friendly happening on that thing.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Chronophobia on 2006-11-21 at 16:51:50
Well, if I can't get anything (such as a map), I can't make anything. Hehe.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-21 at 18:00:15
WoodenFire has the map and he's fixing all my newbie blending mistakes. As I said before, thanks for the offer though.

God I really hope this doesn't get my map disqualified from the contest. ermm.gif

ยป No team projects.

I wonder, I wonder.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-11-21 at 19:39:31
That's what I meant. Technically is it considered a team project when I already did the terrain and triggers and he just goes in to fix "blends?"
