I wrote this a few months ago but PLEASE READ AT LEAST "Rise of the dominion: Hyperion's assault" (this is mostly the conclusion to the climax ending with a cliff hangar) before reading this, you might comment that this is a bit dreary, well that's how it is with conclusions eh. Critiques on the prequel is also accepted.
I also have another story before that to all those are interested, so you could also post critiques on that story here if you want.
Alright here we go:
Arcturus watched the explosive space battle in pleasure. The wraiths hailing Gemini Missiles on any Zerg that dared to oppose them. Valkyries rooting out any stray Zerg and leaving them dead in a moment. Nothing in the proximity of the Overlords could win against his powerful army. He felt high and mighty as he saw the Zerg squeal and fall prey to his fleet.
This battle to Arcturus is like experiencing the ultimate empire he wanted to build. Ever since he was a boy, he enjoyed being the ruler, outranking others, and gripping power. During the CR, he was forced to steal, raid, like filthy dirty little thieves. He did not like it; he preferred direct combat… and winning. Arcturus savored every victory in life; the joyous pleasure of triumph was what made Arcturus happy the most. But the empire he dreamed of; he never thought it was possible to establish, nonetheless become the ruler of it. The empire he desired would have the power to crush everything in its path, Zerg especially, and would give an attempt to ally all fellow Terrans against this alien menace; however, it would not be that easy. Especially with the darn Confederates who are extremely independent, and would refuse any alliance, human or alien. But that was all a figment of Arcturus’s imagination, for it to happen would be a miracle an absolute miracle.
These thoughts flowed freely like water as it runs down a dam as he watched the carnage of Zerg. The Wraiths flew intricate loops around the slow Devourers using its lighting fast speed, confusing it, and always putting the Devourers in disarray.
Pathetic he thought, no brains at all, they have the brawns our wraith has the speed, they don’t even put their strengths to their advantage
His thoughts were punctuated by a tap on the shoulder by a pilot. Arcturus swiveled to meet face to face with the pilot.
“Yes?”
“Sir,” the pilot stammered nervously, our radars have detecting a massive Zerg fleet approaching our location, they seem to have come from the planet below, and they probably know that the Overlords we are targeting are in danger.” Arcturus scoffed,
“Kill them all, they should not be allowed to interfere,”
“Sir I’d hate to protest, but I’d like to remind you that our troops are limited, and the Zerg must have multiple times our army. Chance of victory would be extremely slim.”
Arcturus felt like he had been hit with a frying pan, as he suddenly came back into his senses. He really had to stop pretending to be almighty.
“Right, launch a full force attack on the Overlords then, massacre all the Overlords before the fleet arrives here. Order all Wraiths with minor tasks such as distracting stray Zerg to regroup for the Overlord assault.” The pilot saluted
“Yes sir” and he walked over to the control panel, and started carrying out Arcturus’s commands. He wheeled to gaze upon the battle stirring in the vastness of space when he abruptly noticed tiny specks that were getting bigger. Of course, Raynor was heading over to Arcturus’s location to back him up, that should speed up the process of massacring the Overlords.
“Raynor there’s a massive Zerg fleet approaching our location, they should be here in some time soon, and I need you to help me speed up killing the Overlords, so that they lose control. Hurry up and get here fast.” Arcturus said nervously into the comlink,
“I’m coming, I’m coming man sheesh,” Raynor’s reply crackled over the comlink.
Arcturus swiveled around, his hands sweating as he observed the slow process of the demolition of the Overlords. He shook his head; they were not killing fast enough. As the Wraiths launched crimson orange burst lasers, the Overlords began to fly away in a different direction. Of course, that made any difference, but the Wraiths ran low on Gemini missiles and had to fare with the poor damaging burst lasers, which barely pierced the Overlord’s massive thick carapace. The Valkyries were hailing halo rockets, but only to cool down after a small barrage. Giving the Overlords to heal, and after all each rocket only felt like a sting to them. Arcturus thought about muster his fleet, and to commence attack on one single Overlord at a time, but there was no time to regroup! Having all his fleet scattered across a capacious area of space, it would take too much time to regroup. All he could hope is that Raynor would arrive on time… and he fortunately did.
His fleet amassed on the west part of the Overlords the small assault ships like Wraiths and Valkyries, showered missiles. The Overlords taken aback flinched as their fellow allies exploded in an explosion of blood. Even the Victoria fled into the fray. The turrets on the surface of the dim metal coating of the Battlecrusier swiveled to aim and launch Turbolasers on the Overlords. Its primary ATS batteries assaulted the unsuspecting Zerg creatures as the bright laser blast impacted on the Carapace. Due to its immense power, and chemicals that were specifically designed for devastation, the ATS batteries instantly massacred many.
Arcturus noticed that he forgot that he was even standing on the Hyperion. With capabilities and offensive functions by far exceeding the Victoria, he could definitely speed up the killing of the Overlords. Grinning, he turned to the lead pilot
“Pilot I want the Hyperion to assail our target,”
“Yes sir,” the pilot obeyed without hesitation. The forward thrusters on the Hyperion instantly started up, a spinning orange flame began on the three engines formed in a triangular position, as the Hyperion advanced towards the helpless creatures. The Hyperion’s ATS batteries practically ripped a hole through an Overlord, as it too joined the massacre.
Then the Zerg wave struck… but the amount of casualties suffered by the Overlords had a significant effect. Arcturus watched with a satisfied grin on his face as he watched the Zerg minions not turn against each other, but do a grim war amongst each other. The uncontrolled Zerg went on a furious rampage, Mutalisks spraying toxic acid everywhere, Scourges exploding into their fellow comrades, spraying blood and ichor everywhere, and Devourers splattering their repulsive purplish toxic acid upon the mad creatures.
Of course, not all the Zerg went berserk; the Overlords screeched commands to the rest of the airborne creatures that they had control of; to stay out of the rampage of the mad Zerg. The controlled Zerg who were shaken by this violent turn of events headed for Arcturus’s attacking army, but they did not bother with the minor Valkyries, or the Wraiths who were slowly bombarding the Overlords. They flew straight past them, towards Arcturus’s ship. Arcturus knew that the Overlords weren’t stupid, that they knew who were behind this immense attack, and so they had commanded the remaining Zerg who were under control to assail the Hyperion, which meant that they were aiming for Arcturus at that same time. Panic struck him like a needle piercing paper, as he came into realization what was happening.
There was still a massive amount of Zerg still in control and once in awhile; a few Airborne Creatures would turn against each other due to the massacre of a few Overlords. Before they could wreak havoc upon the whole swarm, the rest of the attack fleet would simply fly away from the battle. They then would continue on to move towards the Hyperion. Arcturus braced himself as a scourge impacted upon the hull, and the attack began. The auto turret defenses went berserk trying to fend off every single unit, but due to the immense size of the attacking army, they could not take down them efficiently. Arcturus then desperately reached the Comlink, and said to Raynor,
“I’m being attacked heavily by massive Zerg reinforcements, I need you to either back me up or kill all the Overlords. The remaining ones are causing trouble and are commanding their attack on my ship!”
“I can’t have a moment of quiet time can I?” came Raynor’s grumpy reply “alright I’m sending a backup fleet to stall time, while I destroy the rest of the Overlords, hang in there.”
Hang in there; he could definitely not hang in there, especially with his ship rocking from an explosion or two coming every thirty seconds. A portion of the attack crew broke off to combat Raynor’s reinforcements, but that did not slow down the incredible damage they were inflicting upon the Hyperion. In the command room, Arcturus saw Overlords float near the side of his Battlecrusier, perhaps they were trying to stay under the protection of the attackers. No, the repeated attacks, and heavy blows finally had blown an ugly hole at the side of the titanium metal plating of the side of the Battlecrusier, and it was large enough for a boarding party to climb in. On the screen, he saw Hydralisks and Zerglings slink into the hole. Alarmed, Arcturus spontaneously shouted to his crew,
“Close all the doors and lock them tight! Zerg boarding party!”
The expressions on his crewmembers suddenly turned apprehensive as they scrambled to shut all the doors. Arcturus seized a gauss rifle, and loaded it with ammo. Soldiers aboard the Hyperion were ordered to suit up into their combat armor, and kill any Zerg that penetrate the door. He gritted his teeth as he saw the mini-map of the Hyperion on the screen. They had only recently boarded the ship and were advancing further into the hulking ship. He felt another explosion, and the ship was so violently rocked that Arcturus was almost swept off his feet. There was a large warning bleep. A nearby pilot gulped.
“They crippled our auto turret defenses, damn they’re smart.” Something was wrong though. On the space window, he could see all the Zerg attacking the ship and themselves at the same time, followed by screams on the comlink. The Victoria must have exploded taking Raynor’s crew with him. That was Arcturus’s first assumption, but when he listened more attentively to the comlink, he heard whoops, and sounds of joy. In the loud noise that Raynor’s crewmembers were making he heard a voice that said, “That’s the last of them!”
“Raynor did you kill them!?” Arcturus roared into the comlink hoping that his loud voice wasn’t drowned out. He was about to scream even louder, when he heard a clear reply,
“Yes, and do you see the Zerg? They are going berserk! We killed them that should solve the Zerg problem on your ship.” Raynor said happily. Arcturus assumed the same thing, but he saw that their ship was sustaining the same, if not heavier amount of damage as they were receiving when the Zerg were controlled. It occurred to Arcturus that he was in the middle of frenzy, and that he would have to get out of the melee.
“Move full speed away from the Zerg, let them devour themselves alive.” He relaxed when they were at least a few kilometers away from the Zerg. It was hard work but he and his men managed to achieve the feat of pulling themselves away from the Zerg carnage.
When Arcturus saw the ravaging Zerg, he gave a malevolent laugh, but when he saw the faces of his crewmembers staring blankly at this awkward behavior, he cleared his throat, and smiled.
“Well we’ve won!” Arcturus said contently “I’m going to contact Captain Raynor right now.” He moved into the Comlink, and saw that he was a little late for the party and that everyone had calmed down; the joy of demolishing the Overlords had worn out.
“Uh how’s Lieutenant Kerrigan,” Arcturus asked adding a hint of concern in his voice. He was slightly embarrassed that his timing was a little late, so he decided to change the subject.
“Sleeping,” came Raynor’s reply, “She’s had a rough day and was one of the few soldiers who hadn’t got any sleep when you were distracting the Zerg back down on the planet there.”
“Well we’ve finished, we’ve won let’s get down to Mar Sara Base so we can get some rest.”
************************************************************************
Back on the Victoria Raynor gazed at the Hyperion suspiciously, despite the numerous times, Arcturus had led his troops to victory and the multiple times he had helped him, Raynor still couldn’t get him to trust the former member of the CR. A voice at the back of his head calmed him, if Arcturus was so bent on raiding Mar Sara again; he would not have risked his life so, and would’ve not sacrificed so many troops, and pilots for the planet’s well being. In conclusion, he had accepted that Arcturus was on his side, but still he knew he could not be friends with him for that matter, or maybe even get close to him.
The Hyperion was trailing the Victoria back to Mar Sara, they were descending into the atmosphere of their planet, it took awhile but they managed to land upon Mar Sara platform. The Veteran troops and vehicles of the battle, followed, and returned home after their long strife. When the unloading platform hissed, and Raynor, Arcturus, and their troops, walked down, Raynor expected to have confused glances towards him, wondering what mission could’ve caused this much devastation and damage, but he didn’t. What he saw was chaos.
Mar Sara base itself was perfectly intact, no damage had occurred, there was only panic, and the people were in complete disarray. He saw military troops scattering everywhere, and it looked the whole Mar Sara military had withdrawn. Already he could see Battlecrusiers ready to launch, with Dropships not far away.
Arcturus held the same confused expression at this state, unaware of what to do.
“Raynor do you have any idea of what’s going on?”
“You’re asking me,” Raynor said frowning. A Mar Sara officer dressed in blue scurried up to them.
“Identify yourselves.” He said in an official voice,
“Captain Raynor and Lieutenant Kerrigan,” Raynor said, “We’ve just returned from mission 508.” The officer gave a formal nod.
“Please proceed to the command center; to await further instructions Aldus has just been kidnapped.”
