While driving in bus today I was brainstorming about things that I would like to have in my favorite editor. Now there you go.

The difference between editor display and in-game screen always have been a pain in the ass for me. So I though about an option that would put up a "in-game" panel and a border on the display. This way you could see exactly how the scene will look ingame without running SC. Also it would help with location-wise triggers where you have to cover the ingame screen and stuff like that. Also you could put there some option like setting the paned transparent and race changeable.

The other thing I think would help is to put some general tutorials and lists directly in the editor. Just a simple list of tutorials, click the one you need and a table with it shows up. Nothing fancy required. Why is this needed? When I work on maps often I need to go to SEN or other online resources to get simple things like unit attack/movement speed, disable list and all of the kind. Just few general things like this, that are not exactly the things you can just remember.

So what do you think?

I support the ingame-look idea smile.gif

As of the tutorials: Either you make it customizable so that you have one folder where you can put in text files which are then selectable in SCMD2, or - this is for you, DEAD: Just collect the needed text files in a folder and add a link to this folder to your task bar. That's how I do it; it's easily "customizable".

I had planned the ingame look for this version, but thought it was stored as a pcx and not .bin and several grps. since I dont have any bin loading code it isn't done, I may finish it some day tho...

Cool SI. smile.gif

And spines, yes I keep them as text files, but it would be cool if they would come with the editor in the first place. I mean for other people. tongue.gif

Those who don't need them won't find it THAT cool happy.gif

Anyways, IF tutorials, then customizable by just adding text files to some folder, and then you can offer tutorial packages wink.gif

I remember suggesting that in-game idea a while ago. I thought you said it was impossible or something. tongue.gif

How is putting a transparent image over the display impossible? tongue.gif

Well you wouldn't see the trigger affected units that have been disabled and such. I sort of forget. tongue.gif

I've had a private version for a year or more with unit movement :>
moving a unit: select and rightclick

I would prefer it if you included a drag-and-drop for units etc. smile.gif
Also, I doubt your units cared about unwalkable terrain? happy.gif

so you're one of those kids that never shared their toys eh? are you gonna release it in a future version? cause it'd make unit placement less annoying

Hmm.. we should make a game SI!!!

Ooooo!! Lets call it "Worcraft in Space". Worcraft to not conflict with Warcraft.
OMG will it be the best game ever! We can have a super high tech race!!! A non-tech race!!! oo and a race that resembles humans!!

To get the "ingame" look, you could always take a screenshot and take only the panel :/
