Uberation but OSMap can still unprotect that so there is a possibility that someone could still steal your map unless OSMap V1.06 still has meathods that make it unprotectable

And you want to protect maps why?

I've been reading on the forums on how some people like "trolling"
by copying maps and then butchering them into pieces of crap.
Or they just take the map and proclaim it as their own.

Dragoon you should look in forums before posting. Theres one about Map Portection with about 20 reply's. I think it has all your needs. And its locked because there's so many, this should be another. crazy.gif

Well, I lock my maps just so some complete and total map making newb doesn't open it up, and so it compresses and is faster to dl, if someone uses OS map on it they must at least be smart enough not to totally screw up the map, I asked about 30 users on Battle.net if they'd ever heard of OS map, but even the 4 or 5 that said they like to make maps said no.

Falkoner has a good point.

Not many people know OS.Map, But the ones that have it sure know how to use. As Falkoner said. Lots of newbies try to open your maps to change them cause they're not good enough to make one themselves. And usually those are the people that likes the map a lot. Anyways, just a note -you should always make a back-up of your locked map in a hidden folder somewhere. Just in case you forget your password. Cause once yopu forget it, forget your map biggrin.gif lol
Just remember if your gonna fix/update it, to update the back-up too...

Sounds dumb and prolly not many people do it. But watch em cry when they lose that password w00t.gif

wtf are you talking about? map protection doesn't involve passwords. and why would you need a hidden folder on your own comp...

Korean (melee) map makers are now releasing professional melee maps with a kind of protection which crashes OSMAP. I don't know what it's called though.

Uberation3 supports password protection.

And then MA and LW would just release a new version.

too bad that a program that was intended to unprotect any map can handle less maps than my program shifty.gif
I doubt MA and LW will update OSMap again and again. If they do, we can at least be sure that their intentions are sick.

There is already a 1.06 that came out like a week ago. Your program can handle more maps because it's an editor and reads maps the way Starcraft does, LW and MA's program just undo's the little things map protectors do to a map to make it unreadable.

If that's really the way it is done in OSMap, I wish them a happy updating.

Basicly, if you want a protection to "protect" your maps from the average joe smoe, I would use uberation.

If you want to get "fool-proof"(which there is no such thing) protection, then I suggest you learn how to code and create your own map protection... if there is only 1 person that uses a certain protection, then I doubt OSMAP will be updated for it.

Uh, honestly I don't understand what you're talking about either.

Let's take a look at map protection basics.

Map protection corrupts the map so it cannot be opened in any editor. Password protection encrypts a password into the map, so it can be unprotected later.

OSMAP (there is no period in it) unprotects the map whether it is passworded or not. Why would you want to stick your map in a "hidden folder", and further more, why would you want to protect yourself from CD-Key generators?

And whether or not these CD-Key generators have keyloggers (which is in question) is irrelevant, since OSMAP unprotects regardless if you have the password or not.

And if you do make a backup of your map (which is a good idea), why would you store it in a hidden folder..?

The only viable reason to use map protection today is for compression, and quality control. Map stealers are very rare, and pretty much non existent on today's battle.net.
