I have a friend of mine who wants to play a modification available in your downloads. The only problem is that when he attempts to open the .exe modification file it returns and error stating that its unable to locate starcraft.

First thing I checked was to make sure starcraft was installed properly via the registry, etc.. Anyways, it seems to be in order, so what else could I look for pertaining to getting the modification loaded?

It seems to be working on my computer perfectly fine. We where going to use Hamachi to vs each other with a mod, but then he got this error, and I used logmein.com to take a look for my self.

Sorry if this is is the wrong form section.

Which mod is it and whats the specific error. He could need to:
A. Put an MPQ in the starcraft folder that specificly pertains to the mod.
B. Patch to a different version of SC. (Please use SC downgrader in the downloads section if this is the case, as re-installing sc and finding the patch is far too time consuming.)

Hope this helped.

Tell your friend to make sure his StarCraft CD is in.

The important registry setting here is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Starcraft\InstallPath (or if on 64-bit Windows, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Blizzard Entertainment\Starcraft\InstallPath). The InstallPath string value may need to have no backslash at the end of it; for example, C:\Starcraft

We are trying the weapons mod, and we already tried other mods, so that cant be it, it was the same error with all of them.

That is the only reason I can think of that would cause that message to be shown. Make sure you are checking it in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, not HKEY_CURRENT_USER. BTW, if you haven't already, see if Starcraft shows up in MPQDraft.

-EDIT-

Hmm, actually, you could even try putting the InstallPath value at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Starcraft\InstallPath as well as the location I already mentioned. MPQDraft and SEMPQs created by it may be able to use either.

Stick the mod in your sc folder just to be sure, and make sure he is not running a Mac? biggrin.gif wink.gif

Its in the starcraft folder (does not have to be), and its obviously not a macintosh.

I had this unfortunate problem too, and as far as i know, the only way to fix it is to change the string \starcraft.exe(NUL)(NUL) at 0x916C in the .exe (should be the same for all of them) to .\starcraft.exe(NUL) and then stick the exe in the same folder as starcraft.
