Staredit Network -> Computers and Technical -> The Halo 1 Issue

Specifically my stats:
2.0 Ghz AMD Althon XP 2400+
256 MB NVidia GeForce FX5500
768 MB RAM
75 GB harddrive
Onboard AC'97 soundcard(or something)
Belkin USB Ethernet adapter(like a wireless router, but has wires)
Other things I may be forgetting, like a keyboard and a mouse tongue.gif

Basically, even after turning the sound and graphics settings down to their lowest, Halo can't keep up even 30 FPS, and when rendering things like the covenenant dropships in mission 2, the framerate gets even crummier. Why does my computer choke on HALO when it's capable of supporting it? It didn't have half the problems with Star Wars Battlefront II(Well, it kinda ran crummy but much more playable there), which requires like 2x the system capacity(very rough guesstimate that doesn't take into consideration important things)

Does it lag in multiplayer? (LAN or something, not the internet).

Give me your RAM, my 528MB one's much better tongue.gif

It should work for you. You've got a better computer than me(except I've got a faster processor, but I don't think the .66Ghz are making the difference). Are your drivers up to date? Are you running lots of programs in the background?

My drivers are up to date and the programs I run rarely take up more than a few %ages of CPU power. I actually have quite a few programs that seem to have "open area issues" of outdoor environments. Basically that means if the area of 3D rendering is an outdoor environment I seem to get some slowdown...

Well your graphics card isn't that great. XP series wern't AMD's best either. Though that shouldn't be the problem.

Although I wouldn't blame it on either of those. I would blame it on the game itself. Simply to put.. I have a 7800GTX and an Amd Athlon 64 3500+. There are certain things on KOTOR that lag my computer up to a halt. It's a flaw in the game itself. Poor coding. Gearbox did this port and they don't always do the best job with ports.

Try turning off things like AA. This can cause some major slowdown on a poor port on random parts.

Also be sure the game is patched up to date.

Yeah, I run it with an XP 2000+, and a AGP 9550 256mb... you shouldn't have a problem with it.. but you knew that already...

And he says he's put the settings to the lowest, so I doubt AA is on. Did you check support forums or FAQ for the game?

AA's never really been on. The card seems to have problems with AA(such as the image being doubled in width and not length, and only half the image displaying)... so I don't use.

*testing*
Halo works fine in multiplayer actually...

Multiplayer, as in LAN?
Could be some sort of firewall..? Try disabling one if you have it on... but that wouldn't cause it to lag in singleplayer...

Check your processor. I had the same problem you need like a 4.1.2 ghz (which I think is a pentium 3). And like they mentioned your graphics card need's to be updated. I switched both those things on my computer and it cleared right up.
