What is HunterCraft?

HunterCraft is a minimod by me (of course.) It runs on 1.14 and creates an entirely new gameplay type: The Hunt.

OMG! What is this strange and marvelous game type?

Glad you asked tongue.gif The Hunt forces the player to choose 6 out of 15 various Hunters and...well...kill stuff. The objective is not to be the last one standing, but to be the one with the most kills when only one player remains in the meantime. Players who lose all their units receive vision to all other players on the map, so they can watch the show while waiting for the score (or help other people cheat wink.gif)

OK, you've got me. What are these "Hunters" of which you speak?

Hunters are, well, units. Most of them have abilities that they can use, and they all have unique sets of strengths and weaknesses. I'm pretty sure that they're quite balanced. Here's the list, ripped straight from the download page:
  • Bounty Hunter
This balanced unit has a grenade-hurling ability that hurts big time. It has no real weaknesses but isn't that great.
  • Fumigator
This mean guy has a flamethrower and a smoke cloud power. He lacks range, though.
  • Jammer Mech
Sure, it's not the most powerful unit, but its Static Pulse ability destroys all energy reserves in an area--nothing to laugh at.
  • Hoverjet
A fast but fairly weak unit that can lay mines.
  • APC
It can't attack, but it can take one heck of a beating. Use it for carrying troops in dangerous areas.
  • Bloodhound
Fast but weak, the Bloodhound can detect cloaked units and burrow to hide itself from danger.
  • Landcrab
It can't attack while above ground, but when it burrows, watch out! The Landcrab has little health, though, so be careful with it...
  • Cannibal Serpent
Perfect for getting those annoying Skimmers and Bloodhounds, the Cannibal Serpent supplements its attack with an ability that slows its targets.
  • Engineer
The Engineer can warp in Defense Outposts in addition to just shooting things. You can only have 1 outpost at a time, but there's no total limit.
  • Tusk Beast
Fear. This sucker HURTS. Rage spins it around, doing damage to all nearby units while its target remains in range.
  • Blademaster
The Blademaster has ridiculously high health and attack power, but no actual ability or range.
  • Juggernaut
Slow but powerful, the Juggernaut can take out most enemies...if they don't escape first.
  • Defender
The Defender can shield allied units in addition to healing them, but its low health and lack of an attack leave it extremely vulnerable.
  • Warp Asasssin
The Warp Assassin can slash holes in space-time, leaving behind singularities that damage all nearby units.
  • Skimmer
Low on health and attack but high on speed, the Skimmer can also cloak. But watch out if there's a detector nearby...
And that's pretty much it for the hunters. Once you get 6, your Base Camp self-destructs--so choose wisely or die ignobly.

Where can I get it?

See the link at the top of the post, in case you missed it the first time around.

Nice work smile.gif That should be really fun in Multiplayer, with all the combinations and strategies, too bad i could just test out the units ;P

It's actually quite fun in multiplayer, once you get used to it. 2P isn't that great (hint: don't try turtling with more than two people wink.gif) but I imagine that it would be great fun with at least three people. Hopefully I'll get to try it this Friday, since I'm pretty sure we're doing it for Mod Night 21 biggrin.gif

Yeah it is fun. But just a note, alot of the spells arent even/fair I.E. Grenade does only 30 damage when you can shield someone for almost a minute making them invinsible and kill like crazy. Lurkers are a bit anoying to get rid of if you dont have a detector. Thats all I can think of right now. I played it like 20 times with Ezday and Pie sniper yesturday. Pretty fun stuff.

Hey, the only annoying thing about Lurkers is the fact that players like me insist on abusing their regeneration. tongue.gif

This is fun! How did you manage to make it run on 1.14? It looks like it had been MemGrafted.

Yeah. Which is why we have:

VERSION 1.1
OMGWTFBBQ

This patch fixes the lurkers' regen (which they're not supposed to have) and weakens their attack somewhat. If you've downloaded it already, download it again unless you like desyncing.

Never noticed there was a new MemGraft for 1.14.

Fun: 8/10
I was playing alone... too bad, concept seems like it could be very entertaining with multiple people.

Complexity: 7/10
Not very complex.. but then again, good mods dont have to be complex. sometimes the simpler things are better.

Originality: 6/10
Alien vs predator... still, hasn't been done before. could be done better though.

Overall: 7/10
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........................
too bad we cant play this together sad.gif

Oh my god! I didn't notice FG came out? I must have been in zombie-mode or something the last couple of weeks.

ADDITION:
Where's the download?

FG didn't come out. Think about it for a bit. The download is the big underlined text that says "Download link" in the first post. I updated the file to be version 1.1.

Argh! I also want a copy of FG! wink.gif

it's firegraft beta. My guess would be that it doesn't have all the new features he said it would have, it justs takes .pats and makes them work for 1.14 but that's just my guess.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheatEnabled on 2006-12-04 at 12:18:51
You don't need to have the .exe file in your SC directory, and you don't need an MPQ file, also, it works for 1.14, and that's great.

Wow, your mod has just inspired me. In all the time I have been modding STF, I twisted my ideas around the rigid architecture of Starcraft’s many unchangeable conventions. Or so I thought. I’ve always been aware of *.got editing, but I never recognized that more complex StarEdit triggers could be employed. Until now.

I may actually be able to implement the economic system I’ve only dreamed about for STF. However, I’ve only played around with StarEdit triggers years ago, so I am by no means an expert in the field. I would very much like to discuss this further with you.

I’ve added you to AIM. You can message me at either STF Hercanic or Hercanic if you're interested. Thank you.

Woah, a response from the master himself... very impressive, Agamemnon.

Agamemnon, I liked this although it does have some balance issues, it's still fairly entertaining smile.gif. If anybody wants to play this we could get a little group together and play. PM me or message me, I've got most of the popular messengers.
