A real life friend of mine plays melee only. He is alot better than the average melee player is, and competes professionally. He asked me to find out for him where the dedicated members of Staredit.net get their motivation to make content.

For the same reason as the example above, wouldn't it be a great idea to make a FAQ for people to get motivation from. I've seem a similar idea put into effect from a different type of game which makes levels as well. In general, more people would be more compelled to contribute and make SEN stay active.

I'm motivated by the idea that I could make something new, exciting, and fun. I like the idea of making complicated things with in a game that originally had fairly simple maps.

A Motivation FAQ? What kind of questions would possibly be on such a thing?

I don't really think it's that easy to magically get motivated to do something.

competes professionally.

ROFL Who is this guy? I dunno what you think the definition of professional is, but you gotta be REALLY good to play SC as a profession o.O

My motivation is simply that I want something fun to play on... Nuttin else really.

Personally, my biggest thing is storytelling. I've been writing, drawing, and filming movies since I was old enough to do so. I was intrigued and surprised by how effective the Blizzard campaign storylines were in SC, and WC. I thought it would be interesting to try and make a captivating story in the medium of mapmaking. Wether I succeeded or not is up to the player, though. ;p

That's what motivates me, since all but one of the maps I've ever made has a story of some kind.
