I think I've seen a couple of maps at starcraft.org that do just that. So far, such a genre has not proven very popular, and I'm not sure it ever will. Most of what I learned about mapmaking came from looking at the map editor itself and reading about it, and since you can't actually SEE locations, triggers, unit/doodad placement, etc., in a map that is being played, I know I probably wouldn't have learned much from it.

Of course, any intelligent and thoughtfully designed project can have unexpected results. If you really wanna try it, go right ahead.

Personally I don't think such a map would be that useful. Anyone who really wants to use the editor should be able to figure it out themselves, and anything they can't figure out themselves (there are some hard parts, certainly) they can probably find from a tutorial rather than having to play a special tutorial map.

SCCE is pretty damn simple. I don't think anyone needs a guide on how to the basics. What would be more useful to noobs is a list of things that are impossible or that the editor just doesn't support (so that you pretty much have to work around the problem).

Besides, you can't make something eternal live longer. It's only a matter of time before StarCraft is incorperated into the Olympics biggrin.gif

I think it would be too hard, and most newbies wouldn't understand. You can try, but good luck.

Personally no because noobs don't really care how to do maps and triggers. They just rigg maps, complain and make the community sad as it is.

Well, people actually playing StarCraft will probably end eventually. Someday a just plain superior game will come along, and everyone will play that instead.

However, in terms of historical significance you could very well consider StarCraft immortal. It was not only one of the highlights of the beginning of the computer game age, but it was also the first computer game in space; if nothing else, it will go down in history for that.

SC is dying, and not you, or any one man can save it. When blizzard gets their head out of their ass, then and only then will SC as a franchise be saved. But strictly speaking, SC as the game, not the franchise, cant be saved.

Im going to an SC LAN party this weekend. Hosted by me and my friends. Melee, Modded Melee, just fun. The SC gamers in my community range into the 30s. I was the first person in the county to buy SC, and i showed it to 11 friends. It spread from there.

I am responsible for Vernon NJs SC players. Rock on.

No, because the majority of StarCraft players:

- never have been on battle.net
- play melee
- don't make or have ever made maps
- aren't committed to or aren't interested in map making
- are incapable of learning how to map without going insane, losing patience, etc.
- never host these kinds of maps
- have or are planning to leave StarCraft
- cannot understand the map because they speak, read, or write in a different language that may use different symbols other than our own alphanumerical system
- don't have the time to map
- have been addicted to other games such as WoW
