Latest News - 1/2/07

I'm back, and so is this topic. Honestly, it may be awhile till a new version comes up though. Everything in 1.02 has been triggered but I'm having an issue with wait triggers for some reason. I'm pretty sure they aren't wait blocks due to 2 triggers activating at the same time, we'll see.

-Planned Changes in V. 1.02
Color Coding: Bug, Redo, Addition, Removal, Other

•Gas - This is causing some annoyance and frustration so I'm going to redo it. More details later. √
•Planting Triggers - It appears I'm having scrouge being left over and some other small issues. This is a simple bug and will also be fixed.
•Space tester failed - You will be refunded your minerals. √
•Pot Dealing - Has a very big but simple bug in it. Please just avoid it for now. √
•Liger Disruptor - Too many wereligers being made, will be reduced. √
•Various secrets - I've come up with some more and it will be up to you to find them.
•Rain - Seems not to work, probably an easy fix. √
•Axeman - Traditional men from the pt series. They did return in this map but seem disfunctional. √
•Beans - There has been an issue with this. I'll add a simple reset trigger and everything will be fine. √
•Pylons - Considering adding these as buildings built by the woodpeople. Function will be mentioned later.
•Race - Considering adding this also. Details will be released later.
•Buying - Theres a small corsair bug and you will also be able to buy from any status. √
•Bunkers - You will be able to just build a Bunker. I'd suggest not lifting off you barrack... √
•Papa Roach - After you kill the beetles they'll take their place.
•Waterfall - Removing the sound. It just aint worth it really. √
•Plant Store - Removing the crystal. It doesnt really have a purpose and is just causing various annoyances. √
•Reviving - I'll make sure you can revive from any form of death instead of just being shot at. This may be a pain...
•Beetles Music - Removing the zombie sound and replacing with various zerg sounds. √
•Russian Roulette - Perhaps...

-Wanted Ideas
I am somewhat a creative person but I alone cannot come up with a function for everything. Don't be too crazy with your ideas, thats my job.

•Stripclub - More functional. All you can do currently is buy hookers.
•Ultimate Tree - It will increase your gas limit but so far thats all I've come up with.
•Buildable Structures - Just want ideas for the possible functions. Think out of the box on this one.
•Activities - Make them fairly small and creative.
•Kirby Dolls - You get them from killing the beetles. Perhaps they could have more of a function rather than just be cool.


General Map Information

-Players
•6 players - Any amount is fine though
•2 comps
•P1 is needed

-Terrain
•Junlge tileset.
•A stripclub. Sorry, no nuditiy. bleh.gif
•A mountain.
•A temple.
•A Town
•192x192


How to Play


-Planting
•Build a water collecter (command center).
•Build a comsat. It will turn into a sprout (photon cannon).
•Build another water collecter and either build another comsat or start collecting water (minerals). I'd suggest not getting more than 2 sprouts in the beginning.
•Gas is a needed substance for your tree to grow. Your gas is replenished in 45 second cycles and increases as the amount of trees you have goes up.
•A HAT is the largest type of tree avalible of the comsat string.
•You can also build a nuclear silo which will build a different type of trees.


-Status's
•Towards the bottom right there is a _I_ shaped piece of land where you choose your status.
•There are 4 options; normal, armed, high and in corvette.
•In the beginning only armed and normal are avalible. You have to unlock the others.
•To get high status; Simply build a personal weed farm (refinery) at the weedfarm.
•To get corvette status; Buy a corvette at the town.

-Transportation
•Theres a functional ferry system and a plane system in PT3.
•Simply go to the end of the dock or to the airport and you'll be picked up.
•A yellow airport means it is curretnly in use and will be unavalible for the moment.
•A ferry if not at your current dock will come over to pick you up.

-Buyable unit functions
•You can buy units at the town and the strip bar.
•Currently you have to be in scv form to buy stuff. This will be changed.
•Ion Cannon: Simply cast distribution web wherever you want. Note: It will not work in some areas, its a one time only use and it will not effect White and Yellow.
•Plant Store: You will simply get a drone with a pointless crystal on it. Place the drone where ever you feel fit and at the bottom left you can choose the plant type. Make sure the place you put the drone is placeble.

-Activities
•Most of these activities will give you money to buy stuff with.
•Pot Dealing: Build a personal weed farm (refinery) at the weed farm. Gather some gas and then bring it to the weed packaging plant towards the bottom of the Weed Farm. You will be given some packaged weed and bring that to the potheads at the town. Beware, if you stride too close to a park ranger while carrying pot you will be shot at.
•Secrets: There are many secrets in this game that can be activated. If you find them, I can't promise it will be for the better.
•Killing: Critters give you some money. There are pot addictied ground hogs that keep on burrowing and unburrowing at the weed farm that you can kill for money.
•Beans: Random little things that randomly appear. You will be healed when picked up.
•You can exchange money into water or vise versa at the bottom left.
•And more...

-Other
•You can build a supply depot that turns into a bunker.
•Reviving: When you die a soul (data disc) appears where you died and a flag at the temple. Simply bring the soul to the temple. Note: This only works currently if you die from being shot at. If you die from the ion cannon or falling you will not be able to revive for now.

I played this with you, and nothing personal, but it bored me to death. I just don't see any entertainment in growing trees tongue.gif. It seemed well made though, so good job on that.

Anyway, version 1.01 I just put up. I removed ion cannon targetter. Accidently left it in. Wood people now cost 1 gas. Other various bug fixes.

Lol, you took a pointless map and made it beyond pointless. It looks like you made it actually playable, Good Job! I like all the new features tongue.gif. Maybe you should change all pointless maps and turn it into an actual fun playable game lol

I think after making a 3rd of a map it might be time to let it go...I know it's hard...

Yes, I did fix that. I also fixed the tree being blocked by minerals when it grew into a nexus. I'm just redoing the planting triggers alittle bit.

And no, I will continue to make maps about planting trees. I've already come up with an idea for number 4 and its going to be very very different. If I do get around to making it, I'll tell you that theres going to be 2 races, protoss and zerg trees. You'll compete for whatever and then there will also be the terran which will be the neutral/lumber company. It may actualy not be completely pointless.

Ya, I expected there was that bug. Doesn't matter anymore though, the revive triggers have been completely redone. Have to test them now of course...

Also, I have decided on a new gas system and a slightly modified planting system.

Gas is no longer sunlight. It is just another resource kinda used as a control. It will regenerate every 45 seconds to 10 just like the old system. Wood people cost 2, planting a tree costs 5 and the missile turret (turns into a pylon) costs 10. Explained below.

The planting system is pretty much the same except for one new addition. Your buildings have to be powered by a pylon in order to grow. Now of course, there is no way (except euds...) to detect powered buildings so I'll have to just do a location set over the pylon. You'll be allowed 2 pylons at once, if you build a third one, your oldest one will die.

ADDITION:
1.02 will probably be released tomorrow saying I can get it stable. I'm having alittle trouble with the modified planting and reviving systems. Its really annoying because I'm changing so little in how they actualy function but they decide to not work well anyway. closedeyes.gif

I'm going leaving for vacation on Wednesday morning so in all likelyhood I'll only be able to get 1.02 done so I'd suggest you mention all the bugs you can so I can fix them now rather than wait the next couple weeks before working on it again. Theres the possibility I may be able to work on it during vacation alittle but I won't have an internet connection anyway so ya.

This map stole over an hour of my time today. I hate how addicting it is... and yet you get nothing done.

So the question "did I like it?" comes down to this... Why did I play it? To take up time. It managed that, very well indeed. So yes, I like the map. The one thing I didn't like, however, was the ultimate tree fiasco. It kept saying I didn't have room and 10,000m would go down the drain. I then found out it was the massive temple and got a few, but overall I didn't find them very ... "cool." The map without them is still as good.

Make them cooler? smile.gif

Yes... Well if you read above I've put in a trigger in 1.02 that if the space tester failed does happen you'll be refunded now. Also, I plan on making the ultimate tree much cooler. I just havent thought of a good idea yet. Please, if you have any, tell me. Hmm.... I just had one sitting here kinda.

If I remember correctly if you junkyard dog a larva it doesnt need creep for whatever reason so what if the ultimate tree produced larva on junkyard dog and the umm... larva did something cool?


I do plan on adding a race in 1.02 where you can do some betting. And guess what racing it is? LARVA RACING!!! No, I won't make the course as long as the one in my larva racing map, but who knows how long itll end up taking anyway.


Also, whos in favor of changing the nuclear silo tree type to zerg trees? The main issue with this is creep. You could build drones I guess and they could do various things.

Sometimes the creep from the Living Tree blocks the Unworldly Tree, you might want to make the wait there a bit longer.

It doesn't always happen to me, I think it may happen because sometimes I forget to set the speed to fastest and I think that messes around with the wait times.

Well, I'm leaving tomorrow and I've been unable to get the newish planting system stable. I'm going to upload a version with everything except the new planting system and that should do until I get back on the 25th. You guys have umm, 4 hours at most to give me suggestions. I'll try to implement the new planting thing when I get back. Perhaps over vacation I'll be able to think of something better anyway.

And ya Kumano, having the game at different speeds does mess with the wait times but theoreticaly it'd mess with the creep disappearing just as much. I'll just add a tid bit more time and everything should be fine I hope.

Hey guys, well some of you may have noticed that I got back about a week ago. I was way too lazy to start working on the map during winter break but I've started again today and ya, hopefuly soon enough once I get all the bugs filtered out of it I'll put it up.

I remember playing one of the first ones and not being very impressed. Three sounds alot better though... but would it kill you to enable poitn scoring mode victory... or something so people can fight to be the best tree planter after a certain time or else just to a certain score.

Your opposite of me btw.. I get almost all my map making done nowadays on breaks... college work is usually too heavy to do much during the semester.
