Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> I need SC map recommendations
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2006-12-08 at 15:36:12
So me and three other friends here in college spend almost every night playing starcraft together. We talk using ventrillo and only play team games. We've played many games and beat them all eventually, but now we're starting to run out of ideas on which maps we can play. There are only certain types that we like though.

Like for instance, so far we've played and beat:

Team survival extreme
OMFG the lings
Art of Defense Team stacked
Special Forces Extreme XXX
7v1 Hard Comp (many versions of them)
Dawn of the Dead Forest, mall, office, houses
Offensive Strike Experts
Dirty Tank D
5v3 Hard Comps

It's games like those that we like to play, and we need some ideas on which good ones we should play next. So can you guys recommend some good maps that are compatible with up to 4 players and involve killing and crap and with all of us on a team. Got any good recommendations? Thanks

Resident Evil: Racoon City

How about those DBZ - All Sagas Evil Adv. maps floating around? It requires tons of good teamwork to beat. I remember I had to host it over hundreds of times before a decent team, who all knew how to play and train, and ended up beating it.

It requires very good micro, good knowledge on how to train, and tons of teamwork to beat, otherwise you'll lose the first sagas easily. Raditz, Nappa, Cell, and Cooler/Frieza are all needed; you don't really need Buu or Broly as players, but they make it much easier.

How many people are playing?

[shameless advertising]Well, I'd be grateful if you were to try out my Gods map (follow the link in my signature). It's for four players, which fits your group perfectly, and it's also (to my knowledge) a new kind of map, so it might make a good deviation from the norm. Opinions vary on it (most people say it's either lots of fun or total crap), and I'd like more feedback on it if possible.[/shameless advertising]

EDIT: I just noticed there's something wrong with my GeoCities site, it's not refreshing its pages. Until I can get it working, go here.

EDIT: Okay, I looked up the GeoCities help thing and figured out how to make it work. It should be okay now.

Hmmm, all these suggestions sound good. Again there's four of us. Sometimes it might just be three, but it does not exceed four.

My friends like old-school style maps the best. They like maps which involve some melee skillz; such as Team survival Extreme and Art of Defense. We already ruled out Melee because we prefer to all be on the same team, since we talk through ventrillo. We don't seem to have a high interest in RPGs not to mention that one of my friends has a very slow connection can downloads really slowly. They don't really like arena style games that much. We love games in which we have some men or so and we just kill lots of crap. Defense games are good too.

Oh yes, and madness maps are acceptable too. Sometimes we like to play games like Boobs Madness and stuff; even though it might be rigged, at least we get to have some good laughs out of it.

But does anyone know any other good old-school maps which *kind of* suit our taste?

Evolves, although that's vs. style.
RE:Raccon City.
Mario Party series

I'm out of ideas.

Ah yes, I forgot. We also played evolves quite a bit.

Mario Party I totally demolished them at that game; I doubt they'd ever want to play that again.

RE: Racoon seems to be a popular suggestion, so I might ask them about it. But the only problem now is that I have soooooo many versions of thme that I dont know which ones are good and which ones aren't. I was even thinking about Normandy too.

To clarify, yes, I understood you the first time, and yes, Gods is for four players (although any lower number will also work).

Gods is very closely tied with melee playing, however due to the way it's built it does not involve any skill at melee (knowledge of melee would help a lot, though).

That Gods does not do. :\ In the future I may have a better map for you, but we'll have to wait and see. I do have some interesting ideas in mind.

I've got a muta control map where you try to kill all the units in the center of the map with 4 muta's each, it's a micro game. Unfortunately, it's in Korean.

You guys ever try any defense maps?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Jamal.oO on 2006-12-09 at 09:20:34
Try this map that I made (here)

It's a solo map, designed for anywhere from 1-4 players. What you do is build up a base (Totally melee) defending your center base. If your center base dies (the one you start with) or you are terran and move it out of the location over it, you lose. You have 30 minutes to build up, then every 100 seconds a wave spawns from each of the 4 corners. Once a player loses, he doesn't have to leave the game, but all his things die and his spawn stops. It's hard to beat, I've only done it once (Protoss - Reavers, Arbiters, Corsairs, Cannons, Carriers..)

A fairly enjoyable map. I enjoyed owning Snipe at it (Although he denies it xD)

Cryzy Tank is perfect for that!

You could try any one of the like 5000 micro maps out there (usually called "_ training", I think Entropy has a rar of them on his site).

Otherwise... 3V3/4V4 BGH FTW. You might get tired of destroying noobs every game, but then you can just try retarded strategies like "Everyone go FireBats" since you'll be somewhat well co-ordinated on VENT. Actually... that would be really fun. Wish I had VENT and a group.

Uberena (Classic arena, who hasn't played this?)
Zombie Attack (Simple yet pretty hard map)
HGMA Defense (One of those mainstream defenses, but it's pretty fun if everyone aren't complete jerks, watch the sprite limit!)
The Puzzling (This might not be the map you'd like to play, but it's what I recommend)
Defend your Tofy (I love this map, 2on2)

GHIN Defence is also pretty fun.
