Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Guitar Anyone?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BlackerWinter on 2006-12-10 at 17:17:53
Hello people,

I would like to host a 90 day competition.

<NEW>This is now open to Any Instrument
By request biggrin.gif

I would like to ask the mods to have the official/final vote, but I would also like feedback from everyone who listens. I would also ask that the people who submit audio clips would refrain from spouting out numbers like 2395812359/10 about themselves to look cool.

This is how it should work-- in theory.

ie) *A post from me*

Hey everyone, here's a link to some of my music. My Purevolume!!
Beat this!! cool1.gif
________________________________________________________________________________
*Post from "Doodan" (the name is an example...you get the point)*

@Blackerwinter, that stuff sounded pretty sick, but ive heard better.
Did u get that riff from the second file from some song??
8.5/10

Any genre is acceptable. I'm talking: Blues, Jazz, Rock, Bluegrass, Country, <NEW>Classical, Neo-Classical, Hip Hop or any fusion of styles you can think of.

Rules:
-You must be the one playing! <NEW>(Duets are allowed when it comes to piano)
-Playing a known song is acceptable, but discouraged-- originality is always better smile.gif
-Singing is allowed, but please, no, "screaming at the top of your lungs" singing
-<NEW>Preferably, I would like everyone to stay away from entering their entire band, because this is suppose to be about you indivisually.
-If you don't have a sample of your own stuff, don't make comments like, "Dude, you call that shiz music?? im soooo much better." because a. You'll get warned b. I will insist that you put up your own stuff that's, "soooo much better" and if you don't, you're subject to public humiliation tongue.gif
-Try to break the mold-- For guitarists: don't just do the typical mashing of the 16-20(24)th frets at lightning speed, cause it's not that difficult to do wink.gif <NEW>For any instrument: don't just run through arpeggios, I'd like some actual, creativity. smile.gif
*-You are encouraged to submit multiple entries.

I know there's got to be people who are just dying to show off, at least a little bit lol.
I'm curious to hear what other people who claim to play an instrument, actually sound like. I have my Purevolume link in my signature and so u can hear how I play guitar, as well as one track with me and Brett (Woodenfire). There's even a, "Welcome Track" for SEN users by yours truly.

I'm really quite enthusiastic about hearing what you people got when it comes to guitar skillz

Lets hear it!! Post links to some of your guitar works.

Ends: Sat. March 10, 2007

Removed the two I had before which seemed to have gained a bad reputation. Here is one that might clear a few things up with my stance in this competition. The first one was recorded without my knowing by Kurt, so I don't take responsability for its sketchy makeover.

The second one I added was about 1.5 years ago and was recorded by solo and chords seperate. If you could only imagine me now? Warning, this one contains quite a few errors.

I don't play guitar, but would it be ok if I submitted some of my brother's stuff?

Keep in mind everyone whos listening to the files, those who enter the competition are lookning for scores and comments. So far i think that only me and Brett (woodenfire) have entered so, we are lookin for scores and comments. We can take it lol smile.gif

The one with WoodenFire...the soloing is really redundant. It keeps with the same sort of pace the entire time, and I hear a lot of places where there could have been something far more interesting, instead of just a breezy resolution. Too much diatonic noodling and use of the same general motif.

And just a stab at the key - D major. Or failing that, G lydian / A mixolydian.

Well I've only played guitar for like the past year, so I'm not very good, but I've played piano for quite some time, and am rather good at playing classical and jazz.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BlackerWinter on 2006-12-10 at 22:23:53
mmmm.... jazz. -- im a fan already. you ever heard of Thelonious Monk?

BTW, ive only been playin for like 1.5-2 yrs and so had brett

None of the recordings kurt and I have made are good by our own standards so this is based on recording quality, not your "Perfect-Day" scenario of playing geetar.

: P

And, also @ Arbitrary, it is indeed D Major, but it is Ionian, not Mixo or Lyd.

I'm okay on the guitar, nothing impressive really. I do play the piano though, and I like composing on there more, of course, I don't try to be better than everybody, I just want to make stuff that sounds nice to the ears.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BlackerWinter on 2006-12-10 at 23:27:07
Well, here's another clip that I just recorded, its kinda crappy though, with the internal mic and all. This is strait up, no effects on a kids fender acoustic like 3 rooms down. O well, here it is. happy.gif
BTW this sounds better with your equalizer set to "Treble Reducer" or "Acoustic".

Here's a sample I just did in G major (though by the general rules of chord leading, it's in E minor also.) The rhythm guitar is just a four chord cycle (G / Bm / Bm7 / Em / Em7 / C) repeated. The lead gets a little sloppy but I just wanted to produce a sample, so I went with the take that fit the best.

I liked it! it was a bit unclear with clarity, but i got better than a basic gist of it. It was less metal than i originally thought, so kudos smile.gif

ummm, 6.5ish/10

1.[attachmentid=22068]

2.[attachmentid=22069]

3.[attachmentid=22070]

4.[attachmentid=22071]

You can just mix em up however they all sound good lol

* Solo to it with your first pattern pentatonic on the 9th fret, anything you do with it sounds awsome, so have fun smile.gif

Sorry, i drew this description, but its effective. happy.gif
