Staredit Network -> Games -> Theories into Halo 3.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by KrAzY on 2006-12-14 at 01:25:03
I have made my theory about this on another site before, I did not interview any Bungie staff, neither work for them or even steal information. This is my theory about Halo 3 about the X button and the new weapons. As for Heimdal, don't spoil anything here such as the "Removing Helmet", I'm just explaining my oppinion about Halo 3. I could be wrong, but it's my oppinion. You may see in this quote where I mentioned about Heimdal, as said I placed this up on another website.

My Theories on Halo 3

Ever since they removed the X button's feature toward to the left and right Bumper Buttons to reload for duals. Also the other features to interact such as turret, doors and vehicles will be used on the right bumper too. Well, although the bumper buttons is a new feature for the Xbox 360 a year ago, the black and white buttons are gone. That means that you won't be able to switch grenades, or use a flashlight nor camoflauge anymore, they can't even be used on bumper buttons due to reloading and interactions which was used on Halo 2 that was compatible with the Xbox 360. The bumpers was made for reloading for a better experience, because they can't move the camera while reloading or interacting the environment, and it can help to reload a specific gun for dualing than combined. But what is the X button for? What will flashlight and grenade switching be used on?

There's somebody I know who works for Bungie in a StarCraft Map-Making site which he had experiences of modifying StarCraft's map-editor, he named it StarForge. While hired for Bungie, he had an interview that he had to introduce himself and his experiences. He said the X button is to take Master Chief's helmet off, but what about the Arbiter who is an elite? Or the new character? Since there is the new "spike" grenade that sticks anywhere and explodes into spikes like needlers, and another grenade shown in a trailer where Master Chief throws it on the floor and gives a defensive bubble shield, there's probably a new way they could switch grenades. First, there is no black button. Second, who wants to push the Black Button three times to get a specific grenade? In my oppinion, I think they will be using the D-pad for grenade switching, one will be for frag grenades, another for plasma, and another for Spike and maybe another for the shield bubble. Some say the shield bubble grenade is the X button, but I think the X button puts up flashlight, camoflauge or maybe beserk if Brutes are a new race for multiplayer. Camoflauge is the main ideal for the Arbiter levels, you really have to stay stealthy and it part of the game big time in Legendary. As for I know, the D-pad is completely useless in Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 itself, they might probably use it for the first time.

There is a second theory for the X button. In Halo 2, they use the right thumbstick to click to zoom in, if the weapon isn't a zoom-in weapon, it would show binoculars. The binoculars is actually a useless feature in my oppinion, sometimes it just distracts you but it's just a way to find somebody with an SMG. They might push the right thumbstick as the flashlight feature since it's part of the camera. It could also be the button to activate the camoflauge. The X button for all I know could be something new, it could be the sprint button featured in the second Halo 3 video shown in Monday Football or to gain consious while dead. As in Tom Clancy Games or some sci-fi games use night vision, thermal vision to view the battlefield. Master Chief has a helmet with an orange glass, maybe it could be a vision feature. Ever since there are brute weapons, maybe it can make the feature of secondary fire such as grenades and they could still use the left trigger to shoot frag, plasma, spike or the shield bubble. It may change the fire mode, and you get to launch some explosion with the right trigger. There are so many possibilities I have yet to think about, but I'll have to go with my first theory over my second one because it seems reasonable.

As for the Spartan Laser, it's no brute weapon. As for the grenade that protected Master Chief, it's no brute weapon as well. As I mentioned about the fourth grenade being the fourth button on the D-pad, what if there is another set of weapons made for Spartans? One is for humans such as Battle Rifles and Assault Rifles, another for the Covenant used by Elites, Grunts and Jakals while the new one for brutes and I assume they still use the Brute Shot. There could be another set of weapons just for Spartans like the Spartan Laser and the bubble shield grenade, this gives me a theory of the set of weapons: Blunt Bullets and Explosives, Plasma that burns, Spikes that are brutal and Lasers and hi-tech features for Spartans like the Spartan Laser. The Spartan Laser is no brute weapon as said, it shoots a very small laser very affective against vehicles with no use of spikes. If the brutes have new vehicles such as the Brute Ghost, there could be new vehicles for Spartans. The UNSC probably invented some ways to give Spartans a big advantage to survive.

As for I know, a true next-gen sequel isn't all about graphics and additional new weapons, I think Bungie gone intense by bringing four sets of weapons. The brute weapons may change experience, but what if they added the Spartan weapons if the Spartan Laser existed? I don't think the Spartan Laser goes to the Brute category. Halo: Combat Evolved has a lot of human weapons and vehicles while a few for the Covenant. In Halo 2, the Covenant has been featured with a same set of weapons like Carbine to Battle Rifle and Plasma Rifle to SMG. I think in Halo 3, they will have another set of weapons like the brutes, but as well for the Spartans. It is called "Spartan Laser" for a reason, it has no relation to the human, covenant nor the brute weapons. Maybe Bungie is trying to make us think hard, just like my theories on the X button and how the Brutes isn't just another set of weapons. If I was right, I might as well be damned but I highly doubt it. What do you think?

Er, I don't think I said that. And if I did, I was certainly joking tongue.gif.

EDIT:
Yes, after looking back at the thread it was Xeno that proposed that idea, not me. Please don't put words in my mouth, especially on other websites where I have no control over it. I'd really appreciate it if you could go edit your post on wherever you posted that.

omg,
i was hoping the Halo 3 Discussion forum at HIH would contain these speculation threads. But somehow they made their way all the way to SEN x.x

All you can do is look at what Bungie has been spoon-feeding everyone, seeing as how there's still too many unknowns.

As for giving a no-helmet facial view of MC, I highly doubt that will happen. It would change MC from the uber 1337 h4xxors symbol he has become to a..uh...non-faceless character.

A few other things:

-You were talking about the spartan laser as if it couldn't POSSIBLY be a human weapon. Seeing as how it's called a 'spartan laser', I would just about bloody expect it to be a specialist weapon commisioned to Spartans, which happen to be humans. So, it would technically be part of the human weapons listing, because the spartans are representin' the humans, and happen to be human themselves. There's no such thing as a 'spartan weapon' style, simply weapons that may happen to be specially issued to just spartans, for reasons such as weight. But it would still be of the human category.

-How can they use right thumbstick for flashlight? Just ditch the sniper zoom?

-While there has been speculation on the sprint, it has also been stated that the commercial doesn't represent gameplay. I don't think we can extrapolate on this without seeing video-format Halo 3 footage.

-Anyway, IMO having full weapon sets would be retarted. They went too far anyway in Halo 2 with 'equivalents'. Halo 1 was set up good-the weapons were all unique, and very well designed (OK, the pistol is pretty uber, but stfu because it can't kill in 1 hit while many weapons can, and don't give the retarted "i can kill from across the map with it" because there IS a VERY limited range on it). Halo 2 they have all these poorly made rushed 'equivalents' that aren't balanced within equivalent groups and all the guns sound like they're made of plastic (smg, LOL).

-The shield bubble thingy isn't technically a grenade.

I didn't get this from High Impact Halo, I've registered that forum way before Halo 3 had the chance to launch their first trailer.

As I said, Spartan Laser may not be a human weapon but may be something else. We all know Master Chief is human but he was kidnapped at an age of 6 or 5 then 40 years of becoming a Spartan is another. The Spartan Laser may be part of the Human Weapons but isn't Rocket Launcher the anti-vehicle human weapon? If that's settled, the Brute Anti-Vehicle weapon won't become another Covenant weapon. So there's a chance. As for the grenades, I know that the bubble shield isn't part of it, but in their documentary about the Brutes shown off their HUD with 4 grenades. And for four grenades, there must be a set of 4 different types of weapons.

As for clicking the right analog stick for flashlight, I just mentioned that because it seems to make sense.

I know that comercial doesn't respresent gameplay, infact that I've already read that.

Halo 2 may have equivelant weapons from Human to Covenant but the Covenant weapons are pretty decent, I won't called them rushed. If Halo 2 was rushed, then why they have a rating from 9 to 10 in sites while over 60 thousands of players played it? So for that part, I don't understand. Second of all, how is it retarded? Who wants to play another Halo 1 with incomplete set of weapons of comparison? They made SMG for Plasma Rifle, Carbine for Battle Rifle, Bean Rifle for Sniper, etc. And as for the Covenant weapons, all weapons except Needler uses energy and it heats up compared to Humans using ammo but at least they manage to make it seem fair. Even though they're heating weapons, they do more damage but they can heat up and makes your hands shake giving the chance of human weapons to kill you before they reload. And the Brute Weapons, there might be another way than reloading and heating system just like how they got the grenade to explode with spikes going everywhere than a bouncing or sticking grenade. But who wants Alien Weapons and Human Weapons looking different but with the same settings? Doesn't make sense.

So basicly, I don't know how it's retarded.

Note: Even though the post I've just replied to is old, I just feel like to prove a point otherwise you'll just think of Halo 3 is just another duplicate.

I think it's going to be used to sprint or to throw up the intense hexagonal energy shield seen in commercials, but that's just one Syphon's opinion.

What it should do is allow you to go up to people and pee on them after you kill them. High-Def next gen pee FTW!!

I think the Sprint Button is basicly going to ruin the game otherwise there wouldn't be a gamemode "Juggernaut" neither using vehicles. And for that shield in the commercial, that's what most people thought of but no way Bungie would let players abuse that button, and if it was the shield, it'll be useless. On second thought, as said; X button might be the flashlight, cloak or third ability since they won't use the Left Bumper Button for reloading on your left dual gun. But I don't know how this could work if there was a Halo 3 on PC.

How about a dodge button? That'd be cool. Press at right second to bullet time out of the way of incoming needler spikes.

I doubt they'd revamp the controls so that they could use a feature for a weapon nobody uses(except me biggrin.gif).

Well, it'd work for any weapon, I was just using Needler as my example.

You're thinking of Unreal Tournament 2004 and Quake 3 Arena. wink.gif
