Staredit Network -> Ideas -> Ideas to revive an overused genre?

Hello fellow alumni,

I started thinking of making a regular shoot-em'-up "bang-bang" map, but I need ideas to make it original. Also, I do believe zombies have been over used on Starcraft, so are there any ideas on what to replace the zombies with (please do not say 'robots')?

To better understand my map, here is a quick overview:

2-3 Players. Each player starts with one marine (Not Yet Named) and one Medic (Your girlfriend). Dispersed around the map are various other weapons, gender specific too.

The intro (unless I change it) begins by showing dialogue and armies of zombies begin to attack (radioactive waste fell into the drainage system and people have been infected. (More information will be given and shown in the intro and the game)

various missions will be given to the players that will involve cooperation due to fact that zombies are created in accordance to how many players are in the game.

So, to repeat myself, what ideas do you have that can spice up an old genre?

How about dinosaurs? I haven't seen a dinosaurs used as monsters in a looong time.

You can create something unique such as a human/dinosaur hybrid that morbidly attacks mindlessly as zombies but has the intelligence to attack in formations and use equipment, even form organizations and communicate with the players when incoming for an ambush.

Story:
An inconspicuous government organization's plot to learn the human genome by splicing human DNA with reptiles have resulted in a faulty experiment and a creation of human/dinosaur hybrids dubbed the Humasaurous rex. They are bloodthirst and seem to attack as mindless zombies, but recent research have concluded that the Humasaurour rex has an IQ of over 150 on average.

A civilian organization named the BFGunners9000, composed mainly of young adult FPS gamers and former military veterans with high quality shooting skills, hears of a reward for bounty hunters to kill off the Humasaurous rexes with a successful reward being a lifetime supply of gun ammunition and a free copy of Halo 3 per each member participating. They decide to participate and face terrors never before seen in the organization's eyes...

The first paragraph of your was good, but the second seemed to favor Halo 3. bleh.gif

It seems like a good idea, I will try to implement it. Your name may be in the credits, thank you xmrxsiegecopx.
