First, I will state that I am aware that this does not belong in here and am sure it will be moved by an Admin, but honestly, there is no 'StarCraft Help' section.. only help for StarEdit. o.o I know a lot look in here, so maybe someone can help.

Whenever I alt-tab out of StarCraft, and go back in, the colors go screwy and bright and it makes it a REAL PAIN to play.

I have done searching to find my own way around it, and even searched google for if others have had the problem.
There was a topic that was EXACTLY what I was looking for HERE
http://www.battle.net/forums/thread.aspx?f...p=1&#post178425

although, the illegitimate childs there are just mean to the guy and say NOTHING to help him, nor me.

I was wondering if anyone here would have a solution to prevent this from happening, or at least what causes it.

Thank you, and I apologize for posting somewhere incorrectly, and knowingly.

Tab back again and again until it changes the color back to normal, most likely a pop-up caused it. It's probably a virus.

I had this before too, it makes the water terrain all screwy, right?
(It's just like how the water terrain looks under the pylon aura)

Tabbing does not work. I have no pop-ups, and I can assure I have no viruses, as I've checked for everything, and I'm not the only one experiencing this.

THe only lead I have is that it's a video card issue, but I don't know what.

Post a screenshot please, I want to see how the terrain is like.

This happens to me often as well. Usually, I tab out to the desktop for a couple of seconds and tab right back; it usually takes a few tries.

Restarting SC works too (i.e., if SC doesn't begin messed up in the first place.

If all else fails, get a better video card.

I just started it and accidently alt-tabbed out [out of habit], and came back and it was screwed up. So I exited completely and then tried restarting and it just goes back to the messed up colors.

And I don't think I can get much better... T-T I've got an Alienware computer.

Thats not bad, it doesnt affect your ingame play. Imagining it happen to me while I am playing, SOOO ANNOYING, and the colors get messed up too.

lol, it doesn't affect my ingame play? Hell yes it does, everything looks the same color! It's all shades of orange and dark orange, and odd colors of blue on the edges... I can't tell what's what. It's impossible to tell the difference between water, dirt, and high dirt X_X

Screenshot of how sc looks like in game (print screen button)

You can't take a printscreen... it will look normal for some reason. THat's why the guy in the other forum had to use his phone.

And I'm not stupid, I know how to take a print screen/screenshot. tongue.gif

It's a GRAPHICAL problem, not a software problem. The game doesn't ACTUALLY look like that, but the video card and screen mess up somehow with interpretation when you alt-tab or something, so you can't take a screenshot.

Oh okay, I guess I am no help. crybaby.gif
Tip: Don't ever tab out? Or try hiting the windows key (if you have windows) instead of alt tab.

Okay, same to you, don't ever alt-tab out tongue.gif See how it makes things easier tongue.gif
And it still screws up, just less likely to or lasts longer before it does.

[Windows key does the same thing, it's still minimizing the program and every effect of an alt-tab]

...wow...this is a VERY well-known issue. Your computer does not need to have problems for this error to occur. just learn to live with it or better yet, do what seigecop said and jsut alt-tab a few more times(remember to wait a little).
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Undead-Fox on 2006-12-19 at 04:31:17
There is something that CAUSES the problem though. No problem exists without something to cause it. That is what I'm trying to figure out, if I can not get an effective solution.

And it's almost unplayable the colors are so messed up in-game, so 'living with it' is not an option.

And I have tried any number of things, I've waited a good 5 minutes between each alt-tab before trying to do it over again, still same unwanted effect.

Set your desktop resolution to 640x480, and use 16 bit colors. Honestly, I think Starcraft might use 8 bit, so you'll still have a problem.

I've always had a problem with blizzard games randomly messing up, since it happened all the time in diablo. I believe the problem is the colors are getting jumbled, giving you the wrong colors. Hopefully, setting your desktop resolution to the lower setting will stop it from ever going wrong, and setting it to a lower color setting should also keep the jumbling to a minimum. You should be able to fix starcraft this way whenever it happens as well, since a 640x480 16 bit color configuration is less than desirable.

Just change it to 16 bit colors.. no need to change the resolution. And Alt+Tab-ing SC when that happens always works for me.

That's happens to me all the time to, I just never really care that much, since it usually goes away for me by the time the briefing starts. Can't say I've experienced it playing diablo II though.

But ya. Your computer doesn't have problems, it happens all the time to everyone.

It never happens to me on my custom DELL computer, but maybe if you try modifying the graphics properties and the amount of colors that appear on your computer it will change. Also make sure your virus stuff is updated and re-scan it.... Incase it is a common virus.
