Just wondering, what is needed to take an RCA/AV analog out video signal (the yellow cable) and display it on a VGA or DVI-D monitor? I've seen S-video to VGA adapters for like $50, but I'm not sure if the S-video port on my graphics card (evga geforce 7900 GT) can act as a video in port or not.

The video plug on your graphics card is AV (or S-Video) out. If you need to display AV on your computer monitior for some weird reason, you will need one of those $50 converters.

Looking around on Froogle, I saw that you could buy some converter cables for like $5. DVI is vastly superior to AV, and I'm not sure what kind of image quality loss you'll receive because of the conversion.

What I was originally thinking of doing is running an N-64 through my computer monitor. Thus I'm suck with, as a source, RCA standard AV output. I can cheaply get a converter cable to convert the stereo RCA audio (red and white) into a standard 3.5mm jack for the "line in" on my sound card.
I then need to take composite RCA video (yellow cable) and change it into either VGA or DVI-D, both of which my monitor supports. As far as I see, I can go from RCA/AV to S-Video for ~$5, but going from S-Video to VGA costs about $50 for a cable or $85 for a box that can input and/or output RCA, S-Video, or VGA.

Then I'd have to find USB N-64 controllers or at least get another USB joystick for my comp.
