Resident Evil: Shadow Labs

-Updates:
Dec 30: Various terrain fixes/modifications. Insides of buildings modified to be accurate to the outside (Exclusive feature of the map). New idea added: Enemy database. When a certain number of enemies have been killed, data collected is brought into the com-link database, which all commanders have access too. This shows your enemys HP, Attack, and easy ways to counter them. (Screenshot of the database added at bottom)
Dec 29: Large error of lack of room for inside of buildings. Action taken: Map size changed to 256x256 from 192x192. Terrain modified to fit, locations modified for size change. All is well. Triggers started.
New screen shot!

-Systems
-Enemy Database
-Kill a whole lot of em? Good. Because now you know how to kill em perfectly. And you know just how tough they are. Be sure to access your enemy database before doing something heroic. You may decide against it. tongue.gif
-Weapon Switch for command unit. (Hero Marine)
    -Weapons: .223 Rifle, M4A1, Mp-5, Knife, M9FS, Flamethrower, Magnum
-Mini-game type quest start system
-After an objective is announced on the radio, all command units will be teleported to that district to take care of what needs doing. Sometimes youll all be put at one checkpoint to hold of an extra strong wave. Bonuses for keeping the checkpoint or completing the quest will help you, if not be the only way, to complete the game.
-Learning Enemies
-Use alot of units? Or perhaps you upgrade more? Marines or Ghosts? The map will measure these things in order to better suit the hordes of infected that will try and over-take you. Be warned, even hardened pros will have a hard time here.
-Random-switch generated waves
-Play it once and have an easy time picking off a wave of zombies to get a quest done. Next game you might be staring down a few large mutants instead. No game is the same as the last.

-Story

What another RE map? Surely i know exactly whats going on. Nope, take that look off your face chum, its scaring time.

When the T-Virus was released in Raccoon City, and the missles fell, Umbrella went down with it. However flames, in all their fury, could not destroy the evil.

Taking place in an unknown part of Asia, Umbrella has rooted itself deep into a mountain retreat. A facility known only as "Lab S" is still functioning. Under orders recived from William Birkin, just before the Agents came to take the G-Virus, they reiceved a package from him. This package contained Birkin's real project, for which the G-Virus, just an enhanced version of the T, was cover. This virus, called "Sample Xanifer" was stored in the lab for some time. When the company fell and contact with CEO's and commanders were cut, it fell upon the lab director, James Baker, to decide what was to be done. With a single order the sample was opened for testing by the lab. Mr. Birkin had prepared for this, and the sample did exactly as it was supposed to.....

Word reaches the military section of the lab. All connections to the lab are cut off, however between the two are the civillian and lab worker's quarters. The sample was released at 4:07am, and most people were in their beds, unaware to what was coming. Prepare to take down a citys worth of undead, and this time, theyre learning.

ISOM, and its absolutely beautiful. The lab complex is like a small city, operating in North, South, East, and West districts. Doodads help make up the various labs, power rooms, armorys, and other parts of the lab that youll be trying to make your way through in order to maintain the defense forces. Quests will be given by James Baker on radio, as he directs you to various districts to save what can be saved of munitions and supplies. Evacuation cannot commence until Protocall 731 is finished. This requires termination of the lab. A sealed area behind thousands of monsters. Still think youve got a snowball's chance in hell?

-Triggers
  -Whats done:
-None, terrain, location, and unit placement must be completed first.
  -Whats Planned:
-I need ideas from everyone here. Quests will span the entire map, so complexity and difficulty is a must. Any ideas for events, problems, puzzles, or other things need to be posted to make this the best map that it can be. This is going to be a two hour map you play with friends who have all tryed their hand at it countless times before and still failed at the impossible difficulty.
-Other
I want to finish this map. No really. More than just about any other map ive ever worked on i love this one the best. Know why? I promised the community RE: Raccoon City 2, redone and unrigged in all its glory. And i gave up on that. This is that project re-made and re-embodied into something new, i want this more than ive wanted anything i know of. This map is very important to me, and if youd like to help posts quest/event/other ideas, or offer to help me out with the crippling load of triggers.

Also note: If CSMAP is not released by the time this map is done i may or may not release it to the public pending on how long CSMAP will take to finish from the point of the maps completion. LW has told me he will modify OSMAP to couter CSMAP, and that will also effect my decision.

Interesting map. Will it offer the players an ability to change weapons and stuff?
How will revives work if there are any?

How about sounds? Will it be a sound intensive map?

Ah you miss interpreted it. Its not an RPG type map. Think RE-Raccoon City. Although i do have an idea for a commander unit like a hero marine, and i think weapon switch would be a great idea. Thanks.

Also: Sounds yes. And this map is designed to make you scared crapless. If you look at the story the zombies can learn. They wont be slamming at the barricades for long.

(Wow r2b posts on yours but not mine! EVIL! D:) Only RPGish RE map so far I could say, would be my afterlife (Correct me if mistaken, but RE Open RPG isnt really a RPG. -.-)

Excalibur can we put aside our differences for a bit? tongue.gif This seams like a nice map, interesting terrain (that thing with the guntraps is sexy D:), a very hellish plot, and seams like another fun RE map in the making. Best of luck to ya buddy (if you don't still hate me for spamming on clan NGM's forum >.>)

I don't like the terrain that much - I think Twilight isn't that good compared to Space or Badlands. Though I liked the 4th screenshot very much.

About the SCMap and your release date: Relax man, don't let protection/unprotection issues cloud your true goal - producing and releasing a good map.

As long as your can get a massive amount of your map out, its hard to get it stolen. Just leave your compy on all night hosting it, post it on sen, and a couple other sites. Nobody will try to steal it then :D

I will not release a map that is not completely protected from riggers/noobs/thieves. Look at RE: Raccoon City. I dont want another Shimby or MasterJohnny making my map into crap.

Topic updated, screen shot added, systems soon to be updated. Enjoy.

Edit: Updated systems to include database. Note: Database will do more then keep enemy data. Im trying to see what i can incorperate into it.

Humm, do you notice that nobody plays the rigged version? Only the original is still in circulation. And for most people that play a rigged map will probably curse it then leave, or remodify it and redistribute it so the rigged version is whiped out completely.
Well at least that's what I do to get rid of rigged maps. lightbulb.gif

Untrue. Version X by Masterjohnny is the msot played version to date. Shimbys is also played. Lesser known rigged version like the one by LinkSlasher are popular as well.

In short: Newbie pubbies want to look cool, so they use the riggs to be "omfg i r s00000 pwnage!!111 Liek l00k att mehhh!!!1111" and its disgusting.

You do understand that LW will update OSMAP in a matter of weeks after your protector's release?

On another note: if you want to make a worthy substitute to RE: RC, you must maintain it's simplicity. Complex maps often don't become as popular.

And about the map itself: what data will the enemy database store and how will you put it to use?

Twilight isn't going to work well for a building. Even though it's a labratory.

1. Yes, but id rather have it safe at time of release and do what i can to keep it updated. Perhaps release new content in each version to encourage people to leave the old versions alone.
2. I understand. I really want this map to be hard to beat but in a way thats addicting. Like in older games where you just couldnt beat that level at the arcade but you wasted 10$ of quarters on it anyway. Interface wise though it will be very friendly.
3. The Database is divided into parts:
Weapons, Enemy, Defense, Tactics, and Places.
I havent finished designing the database however it will tell you what weapon is good for what enemy, weapon damages/firing rates/range, enemy hp/attack/armor/move speed, strength of certain lanes checkpoints, how to better defend against waves, and where you have been and have yet to be in the map. This is the most complex trigger system ive ever tryed to work with. I might need to ask Tux himself for help on this one.

I am fully aware of the tileset ive chosen and im VERY happy with it. But the thing was i didnt want to do another space RE map, Badlands didnt feel right, and i do believe its time people see that twilight is a good tileset.

Are you going to be scared by this map?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Dark_Marine_123 on 2007-01-01 at 15:13:04
When the new protector is released, his map will probably have a good month to spread, thus making it popular and in everyones mapping folder, making it 200 times harder to steal.

And given osmaps bugs, if it was updated, all the strings will be screwed up like usual, and any stole version will be unplayable ^_^
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheatEnabled on 2007-01-01 at 15:57:19
Also, you can encrypt your map by deleting all location names and adding a blank comment to all triggers.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Dark_Marine_123 on 2007-01-01 at 16:14:22
That works only so far, if you know how to use the text based trigger editor in SCMDraft 2, you can find just about every trigger you need to change. >_>
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheatEnabled on 2007-01-01 at 16:34:59
But the map stealers never like to work. They won't touch your map if they have to work for it. And as most of the map stealers are newbies, they wouldn't know how to use the text editor. Also, blank locations help a lot.
