Staredit Network -> Modding Assistance -> ShadowFlare's grp converter palette files?

More trouble w/ retrogrp. I want to add the 4 replay icon buttons to an older pre-replay cmdbtn.grp, but retrogrp isn't co-operating with this relatively simple task. For some reason a few of the extracted .bmps from this working .grp can't be recompiled?

I tried to extract/compile using Shadowflare's grp convert, but couldn't find the "grayscale" icon pallete anywhere in any SC mpq so couldn't correctly extract? I did for fun recompile retrogrp's extracted .bmps w/ her program. Although it DID compile, the end result was junk as probably this technique is bad.

So where do I find\make the .wpe or .ppl "grayscale" icon palletes so I can use shadowflare's program to extract the .bmps from unit\cmdbtns\cmdbtn.grp? Can I convert retrogrp's included .pal files easily?

Also... I've included a zip file if anyone would like to hands-on try/see what the heck I'm gabbing about in first paragraph as I know I'm not the best at describing things blushing.gif
Btw this is the Open Rebellion TC icon file that I am trying to update.

no that can be compiled when u try w/ retro u make sure save BMP w/ RLE-encode
but sometimes, when try w/retro for icon type of grp that could not work completely that is just bug in Retro

also as u know, u could make out with SF's convertor just take look around of she's note about converter

u can match pallete into converted BMP of icon
first off, in RetroGRP zip package
there is an icon palette which is assigned they original colours like icon's
gray/yellowly colours

so make sure convert palette file from included pal file in RetroGRP as fit as ur *.pal, *.act or anything use image editor

after then edit colours or make a picture of new anything as ur purpose

if wanna get more info about palette take read below link
make sure look around of all post there are many descriptions about the use palette

If you already have the palette you need, use a palette file converter (or image editor that can do the conversion) to convert it to an ACT palette file. That is the same format as the one used for the .ppl files, so it should work. Any palette format that always comes out as 768 or 1024 bytes should be usable - in this case, ACT is 768 (ppl is 768, wpe is 1024).

Ok thnx nirvanajung I was able to make a palette with your tutorial for the command icons that shadowflare's program then was able to extract bmps/recompile smile.gif Of course the only way I got this palette was to extract some .bmps from original .grp w/ retrogrp using its comdicons palette.pal. If that makes any sense.

One funny thing tho.. the extracted images I used from shadowflare's grp convert looked very strange, but compiled perfectly into game. top row = retrogrp, bottom = shadowflare.

... guess I have a lot to learn about grp compiling/palettes. Thnx for your help.

Here is a screen shot showing the updated replay buttons! yeah! Also this screen shot is of 2 Ai's fighting each other, not human ORTC players!

not at all... actualy that isn't funny things... lol oh yea i understand why u have funny

the Starcraft engine show gfx based on index number of each pixels
and that just apply to your BMP source from self palettes

SC engine isnt interested in your painting at all lol
that just read index number value of your painted pixels

side note:

The actual .pcx palette for command icons appears to be in star_dat.mpq
under archive unit\cmdbtns\ticon.pcx
