Hi there! well im makin' a map about the events based on the battle of Minas Tirith and Osgiliath.I've got a question about Osgiliath. pinch.gif

First of all,i putted in my map "Osgiliath "Southern City" and "Osgiliath Northen City" but i saw in other sites that is East and West. (i know, its a sucky question but... xD) So,what is the correct name for Osgiliath? South/North or East/West?

And other thing (and the most important) The South City,is already conquered by the orcish forces or humans froces? coz furthemore,i saw in some sites that Osgiliath South part is human and in others sites that has been conquered by orcs.

First of all i putted that Osgiliath South could be taken by the Orcish forces, but i've got a problem whit the triggers and i dunno if change that could be a nice idea (i mean that at the begginin' Gondor controls the twice parts of Osgiliath, but Mordor can take them too)

So,Osgiliath South is orcish or human? confused.gif

i hope an asnwer! blushing.gif

The river divided Osgilliath into east and west because the river ran north south. The orcs took the city on one half of the river while the other half was held for some time. Though if memory serves the entire city was at one point taken, but there was a struggle because Gondor did hold the bank closer to the fields for quite a time.

Hey! thanks you so much Excalibur! so in theory,Osgiliath West could be orcish rigth? Coz this map takes the battle of Minas Tirith and Osgiliath too (you know where Ghotmog kills the Faramir's officer)

Well,in addition, shall i put Osgiliath West conquered by Orcs or humans? (takin' place Minas Tirth and Osgiliath Battle)

See you! and thanks you so much man!

You have it backwards. Osgilliath, on the east end was taken first as it is closer to modor. The east end was abandoned some time ago.
So
__________________West East
Time:Before Battle:___H___None
Time:Early Battle:____H____O
Time:Mid Battle:_____O____O
And it was retaken later. When i dont remember.

Also Note: Im getting this info from my Dad. Hes read LOTR about 50 times and the hobbit and the simerilian and all the apendixes of all the books. So id list him as pretty damn accurate. Bet he could speak a little bit of elvish too. tongue.gif

Osgiliath was built right on the river. As the river ran roughly north and south, Osgiliath would be divided into east and west portions. Minas Tirith and the rest of Gondor are west of the river and Mordor is east of the river, so I'm pretty sure the eastern half of the city was taken by the orcs first.

You can see some maps here and here. In the first one you can easily see how Morder is east of Osgiliath and Minas Tirith is west.
