Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2007-01-03 at 03:34:51
Well here it is. Several months of busting my butt to get a playable map is now bearing its first fruits. Note that Mk.1 is only the core-only features release. There will be 2 more releases after this at later dates to further expand on the map and fully bring about everything I have in store for it.

Edit 2: Mk.2 will be coming along within the next few weeks. With the gameplay completion (among many other things) it should now be a fully playable release. Stay tuned.

Edit 1: Update release. Get Mk.1.1 now. Fixes several issues.

So what is it? Call it a hybrid AoS/DotA-style map with my own special twist. It's top vs. bottom gameplay where players try to destroy their opposing team's base HQ. To do this they must fight each other using contraptions known as Mechnogears: Robotic machines assembled together from smaller machines parts, each with their own unique functions and attributes.

This map features:
 • Fully customizable mech building system with nearly 30 unique parts to choose from with endless possible combinations.
 • 6 different pilot types with their own ability sets.
 • NPC teams with 3 types of automatically spawning forces.
 • Dynamic Spawner system allows players to supplement existing spawners by building new ones.
 • Countless gameplay options for tackling the enemy through pilots, mechs, non-mechs, and NPCs.
 • Integrated toggleable in-game help system.
 • Over 4.5k triggers (and only a 3rd done). tongue.gif

How to Play
You begin inside the pilot select area. To select a pilot, use mind control. Mind control once gives you information about the selection. Mind control again to make the selection.

After your pilot is selected, you enter your team's hangar. From here, the world is your oyster. You can build your early mech, start buying and upgrading infantry units to bolster your team's defenses (and earn extra money from kills), or save up to build spawners or construct a more powerful mech. It's up to you. You can also refund anything you buy, including mech parts (even if they've been destroyed in combat), so you are never limited to just one path of gameplay.

Exiting the hangar puts you into the fray. To use your mech, you need to select Deploy/Recall option by unloading a Medic from your Overlord menu in your control panel. You can read the unit labels for each option in this menu for information on what it does.

To use your mech, you need to select which mode you want from your Overlord menu. To move around, you want to select Mobile mode. To fight, you need to activate Offense mode. To use your special all-range parts, activate Intercept mode. If you've bought shields or launchables, you can toggle or activate those too from your menu.

If you're in need of additional help, be sure to read the in-game messages and help whenever you can. You can toggle these off if you wish by morphing the Hydralisk in your control panel to a Lurker. If you want them back on, you can simply cancel the morph.

Another bug: when you buy a pilot, you don't receive any refunds for your previous pilot. I understand that for dying, but it's annoying when you want to switch pilots mid-mission.

I don't get it.. Just as the deployement countdown ends, it immediately says mech deployement failed, mech destroyed.. Am i missing something? It failed like 10 now in a row, and i tried out different parts and stuff. What am i doing wrong, is it because i play in single player?

That bug you refered too happened when you turned help off, the same thing happened to me.

A refund for picking a new pilot would help. I played this against my little brother on LAN and he kept trying to see what they all can do, unfortunately, he kept losing all his minerals because of it.

And missile turrets should cost more, they own way too easily, 25 minerals per turret works better.

And I think I found a bug, my little brother (who played as purple) kept ranting on how he couldn't select any of his weapons in offensive mode, and thus couldn't target my shields over the marines and ghosts running around.

Anyway, this is one of the greatest maps I've ever seen, I can't wait to see the final version. Did the game Mechwarrior have anything to do with this idea?

Thanks for the news post moose, but until this is hits Mk.2 or later it's probably a bit early for that. Still I appreciate it. tongue.gif

Yes mog I haven't fixed it yet. I'll do that shortly. I have to tear out some annoying triggers first.

That's intentional. It makes pilot switching require some planning.

That's a bug. What player color were you? Did it happen every time you tried to deploy? Were you deploying in different spots? Were you in single player mode?

Nope. Original idea. I was actually wanting to make this for Moose's contest, originally.

It's not protected, but I did all my triggers as trigedit text so you won't find many trigger comments. I might post the trigger project files at a later date for the heck of it, though. tongue.gif

ADDITION:
I'm gonna try to release a patch later today. Here's what it'll have:
 • Up turret costs
 • Mute sounds
 • Fix sound loop blocking deployment (briefly blocking)
 • Give player message about upgrading cockpits while waiting on gas countdown
 • Fix briefing colors
 • Fix aerial spawner giving
 • Halve gas from recalled (but not destroyed) parts
Savy?

It was gone when i played it alone in lan, though i picked another team then. Anyway i think it was just because i tried it in single, then wherever i deployed it, after the gas countdown, the bot was deployed in some weird area at upper left corner, being stuck, then there were a bunch of green color messages about the deployment spammed constantly. Then there was some other message, but i couldnt read it because the green messages started again, then it said deployment failed, and mech destroyed and left me with some escape pod.

Anyway i still had some problems in lan, when in mobile mod. It felt like the dragoon was constantly recreated or moved because it stopped before the ordered destination was reached, is it supposed to be like that? Because it's a real pain to move it by constantly clicking.. Apart from all this, the map idea is really nice smile.gif

Can't wait to play it, Tux wink.gif

However, aren't weapons usually labeled ATS (air-to-surface) as opposed to ATG?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2007-01-03 at 17:32:18
I've heard it used as Air To Ground before. I guess I could use ATS too. tongue.gif

The jerky movement is drag from parts slower than your cockpit. My solution was to give players a "Pointer" unit so they didn't have to r-click spam to move. You can activate it by double selecting mobile mode.

Anyway I tracked down the deploy failure bug. It was simply because you were trying to deploy with a ground cockpit near unplaceable terrain, and it appears my failsafe for that ends up killing the mech for some reason. I'll have that fixed soon.

Very nice game Tux. I played this with my friends and we played for a long time. The only thing I didn't like was the unit lag..everything else seemed to work well. GJ Tux happy.gif

Try using the pointer unit. tongue.gif

Ok that does it. I'm auto-activating pointers for mobile mode with slower parts. I figure I'm gonna have to make a patch anyway for the other stuff might as well add that.
