You can look in the Downloads Database for map protection tools such as ProEdit, or if you download the advanced editor Starforge, you can enact a weaker form of protection on your map from the save dialog.

And to access it you have to have an unprotected version of the map.

I heard Ub3r@tion was the best one. Is it still messed up?

Uberation works fine. All public forms of protection can be broken, including uberation, but it's what I use.

-.-

If you protect your map after you do that you will not be able to open it again. So for editing reasons and bugs I suggest you save a unprotected version of your map before yo protect it so if people report bugs or you have to edit/fix something.

Well, when I was using Uberation. It asked me for a password and, it had some text which said something like. The password will be asked to open the map. Something like that so I think you can open it up again but has to be opened with SCMDraft first. Sorry if the info was wrong.

The password means when your protecting a map in uberation, and then someone opens it, uberation asks for a password to unlock the map. You can't open the map in SCMDraft though. I'm not sure if uberation just unlocks the map for that session or unprotects the map altogether.

You can have passwords in uberation, and if you reopen the map with uberation, it asks for a password and then if you have the right password it unprotects it, so you have to reprotect it once you are done editing, and yes, I'm pretty sure that once you unlock a map that uses a password you need to use scmdraft2 to open it, I at least know that x-tra doesn't work.

I forgot which Uberation it was but it said you needed to open the map after putting in the password using SCMDraft. Ill get the link.

ADDITION:
Yup, here it is. Link Its around there somewhere.

However, even though you can do this, I wouldn't. Nobody's going to steal it, and even if someone does, it's easy to get the original around b.net. Also, if it's open, people can fix bugs, and improve the map. That's why I leave all of my maps unprotected.

EDIT: What I mean is all my map. tongue.gif

I actually like to have folders for the maps I submit and have the protected and unprotected version in there, and I have a small readme telling them to play the protected one, since I'd rather not have some newb mapmakers get ahold of my map and rigging it. Although, if you like to release it into b.net unprotected, at least compress it so it doesn't take a few years to dl.

How you compress it?

Seriously tell me who doesn't save a raw version of his map when he protects it? Thats just stupid to not to.

Maybe he didn't know that. I'm just telling him what to do and gave him a pointer.

To clear up misconceptions about password protection:

When you set a password and try to open up the map in uberation 3, a input box will ask you for the password. If you enter in the correct one, the map will be unprotected. Save it as another copy, then open it up in SCMDraft2. If you then save it in SCMDraft2, it can be opened in X-tra.
