Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Getting Ai To Harvest

I know its the most basic thing in the map, but I can't get them to do it! ranting.gif How do you tell the AI to harvest lots of stuff and build guys?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2003-10-24 at 17:57:40
You run an AI script at a location over their CC/Nex/Hat.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-24 at 18:00:43
Alright got that. Now how do you get them to build stuff?

Are there any pre-made generic scripts?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2003-10-24 at 18:28:49
If I needed to say something else to get them to build stuff, I would have. smile.gif

Will they expand outside the set boundaries of the location when building their base?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2003-10-25 at 11:37:44
They sure will B)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-25 at 12:24:28
Well they're not. All they do is harvest. <_< (I probably just left out some goal or something that they have to try to accomplish, but I can't figure it out sad.gif)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2003-10-25 at 12:49:02
Depends on the AI script you give them. Some expand, some turtle. Just try them all out an see what each one does.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-25 at 13:21:27
Yeah but they don't build anything... All they do is harvest. They don't even build more harvesters. ranting.gif

That means the AI script you have chosen is "Area Town" which is only mining. You need to choose something like "Terran Expantion Insane" or something.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-25 at 13:43:03
I tried a bunch of different ones, and they're all the same. All the AI does is harvest. ranting.gif

What other triggers do you usually use to get things going?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2003-10-25 at 13:59:39
You know, it takes a few minutes for the computer to start building. Try putting it on insane AI and wait 20 minutes in the game.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tazzy on 2003-10-25 at 14:05:10
lol on Insane you dont need to wait 20 mins, Wait about 5 secs and he rushes you.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-25 at 14:09:08
Well I might have figured part of it out. I assigned the trigger scripts to the wrong groups. wink.gif I have to test it again.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2003-10-25 at 15:04:27
Insane attacks with either 20 zealots, 20 marines, or 20 zerglings at 7 minutes into the game. (I doubt those numbers are right) I definately wouldn't qualify that as a rush.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-25 at 17:22:45
Now some of the teams will build stuff, but the others won't. And its always a different team. ranting.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2003-10-25 at 17:37:23
Make your triggers player dependant and make sure they are ALL computers.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-25 at 17:48:36
I did that. I set each trigger up individually and told them to 'always' affect this player.

ex: on zerg (player 2) base: location box around base and local minerals (named zerg 1), set trigger for player 2 to 'always' 'run ai script: zerg custom level' at 'zerg 1'
-> repeat for other teams accordingly.

And it works sometimes, and doesn't others. sad.gif

Could somebody send me a simple map they made that shows me what triggers I need to set up?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2003-10-25 at 18:23:14
Whats so hard to understand? Its simple.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-25 at 18:35:13
I don't have brood war, my computer doesn't like .scx files. <_<
Report, edit, etc...Posted by FizzleBoink on 2003-10-25 at 19:32:48
Hmm.. try putting the location over the entire area of where you want the AI to build at.. It should work and they should expand..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2003-10-25 at 19:42:03
No. Do what I originally said. Create the location over the CC/Nex/Hat _ONLY_ and then run an ai for that player at that location.

Its very easy.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-26 at 14:11:16
I'll try it.

Dashrike.. If you still need aid I have created a small tutorial for you.

To make a computer mine, build, or attack, you must set an AI Script. To do this, put a location on the computer's main building (I.E Command Center, Hatchery, Nexus), then create a new trigger, set the trigger conditions, and run the chosen AI Script at a specific location.

Needed:
-Location for Main Building which will be known as "MAIN"
-AI Script (Campaign, Custom, Expansion, etc..)
-Computer Players

Trigger Conditions:
- Always

Trigger Actions:
- Run *AI SCRIPT* at Location "MAIN"

Where the "AI SCRIPT" is the AI Script you wish to use and "MAIN" being the location over the main building. It is obvious that you must set this trigger for the computer player.

When you are choosing the script, make sure it corresponds with the race that the computer is to be chosen and make sure it is set to a desirable difficulty setting.

Important Notes you must take seriously:
- Comps must be given correct starting units and resources as well if you wish it to run right.
- When using the Campaign AI Script, the comp expects a fully prepared base and defensive units placed.
- When using the Custom AI Script, the comp expects a bare base and will continue to build its own specific base.

Common Mistakes:
- Must run a correct script for the correct race. (I.E. Terran AI Scripts cannot work with Zerg units and whatnot)
- You can only use 1 AI Script per Computer player. *NOTE: Using 2 or more will conflict with each other and neither will work properly.*
- Disable Random Start locations. *NOTE: Some people do not disable the Random Start Location which then mixes up the players and may run the wrong script for the wrong race at a wrong location which will entirely mess up the system.*

That was my original problem.

I'll have to check on that. Thanks.

And another thing. Is there any way I can get staredit for my comp at school? I can't find a download of it anywhere. sad.gif (is that legal?)
