Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Trouble With Recognition
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-10-27 at 17:55:38
I'm having trouble getting the AI to recognize newly created units as their own. I know there's probably a simple way to fix this, but I can't figure it out. sad.gif Any help?

If the unit isn't the same race as the AI, or is a hero, or is not part of the current research string (the computer can't even build them) then don't count on them using those units.

What I do suggest is giving those units something to do for the computer. Order them to patrol so and so area, etc. Then they will do that untill the computer acknowledges them, or otherwise.

I told them to 'strategically attack' and so on, but they just sit there (even when fired upon)

Run the AI script again when the new units are made.

I tried that. The AI seems to not register that they exist until they get attacked.
And then they forget about them. sad.gif

Try Random suicide missions?

The problem is not the suicide missions. It does that fine. It just doesn't repeat it for the new units. Do I need to specify anything with the 'preserve trigger'?

Maybe. If it doesn't work, I suppose its another limit of Staredit. There are ways of bypassing it (I.E. Junkyard AI, attack a location etc)

I also tried telling them to 'value a location higher' and set that location to my command center, but that didn't seem to help.

strategically attack - Will work, but may take a while.
Run the AI script again - Don't! It tends to screw up the computer and make it slower at attacking or prevent it from doing certain things.
Random suicide missions - Works almost immediately, but its not very effective.
value a location higher - This will make them defend that location, im not sure what it does to enemies, but my experience has shown it does nothing.

Have you tried what I suggested in my last post? This works fine.

How do you tell them to do that?

The 'ORDER' action.

Try running the AI Script "Junkyard Dog"!

I don't think that was one of the options...

I'm not seeing any version numbers or anything though...

If you don't see Junkyard Dog, you're using a pretty crappy (or the original) StarEdit. Get out of the stone age. tongue.gif

I don't think he can, unless he gets the expansion.

Yeah I think I have an old version. The edited map you sent me Chu, at least one of the AI scripts didn't load. Its just a ". I don't know if it will still work. I'll try.

You should just buy the battle chest. Then you'll have a 2nd CD key just in case.

Yeah I should. I was going to a while ago, but my mom didn't want me to get it because the chick on the front (infested kerrigan), was "ugly". lol

Thats a nay.. The Regular StarEdit is severely limited just like a blind arabian who has pegs for arms and legs.. I suggest getting an X-Tra Editor(GREAT FOR BEGINNERS), StarForge(Good Editor for Advanced Users), and MANY MORE!
