I think i thread of how to muck around with the editor is needed, and when a huge amount have been collected, and the thread just becomes a massive spam, Yoshi should post it in the Tut's, but not till there is a large list?
Post should be on how to make clever tricks, really without using massive amount of triggers, doing something in 'an' editor that causes Starcraft to make some strange changes.
Tricks of Staredit:
- Flames - Pure Green Health Bar (Terran + Protoss Buildings Only)
Easy to do, as long as the building in use is set to Invincable, else the game is given away. Set the buildings strength to *1*, and then for Protoss set its health to *1* in the properities, with Terran *34* is about as low as you can get, then when playing the map, they flame, but they are perfect. Not really useful, but looks good.
- Invincable Units - That can be attacked (All Teams)
Requires SCMDraft, or...Starforge...Simply set the unit which will be attack to 0 health, and anything (Anything) that attacks it won't do anything. Works great for those Explosion shots, which get seen in many *Bound Maps*.
- Flickering Names (Requires the 0Back and 0Front characters)
When the name of the unit/building is written, create one of each of these characters at the end of the name, and extend as far as you can away from the writing, using the space bar. Parts of the writing will only flicker and looks great with a flaming building...
- Placing Units for Any Team, without a Special Editor
Though a little redundant as everyone uses special editors, i might as well say how you used to be able to do it...You do your first teams units/buildings, and then using *Shift* select the all, and delete them. Then change your team, and *Redo* and they return, then do what you have to with the next team, and select them all, *Shift* again, and delete, change teams, and then *Redo*. Just thought i should post this...
- Spare Unit, Buildings, etc...without Player
Again, not hard to do, just need the right editor, in this case most people use Starforge, but i use SCMDraft, why? Because it is less buggy in some cases, and you can place units better with it. How? Well choose units, then change the player name from Player 'X' to any number above 8, and it will work, then open it with your normal editor, they will change in colour, just don't change their players properities, and there you are, extra units. Warning some have strange effects on games!
- (ADD MORE)
"This is a screenshot of me looking at a Building, on Fire but with full Health Bar..."
- Waits without waits - Create waits without using the 'wait' trigger.
There are two easy ways, and several complicated ways to do this.
The first way is to make a place in the map away from players where you can spawn and move units at will. What you do is make 2 locations: "Start" and "End". From there, you can spawn units for players at the "Start" location, and force them to move to the "End" location. You can control how fast/slow it is by changing the spacing of the locations, or the units you're using.
The second way is much simpler. You take a score which is not used in the game, and add/remove to it. Lets use "custom" score for this trigger. Have the wait give players (5)five custom score. Then have another trigger that removes (1)one custom score every time a player has at least (1)one custom score.
Both of these are very useful if you are making a zero wait map.
*will upload these as tutorials later, if he remembers.
