Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Team Melee, Is This Possible?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-08-23 at 12:31:33
So, here's the problem I have. A group of us are playing a SC:BW game where you have 2 or more teams that play a series of 1v1s and 2v2s on different maps. The winners of these games collect monetary and unit bonuses to take into the final game. The concept of the final game would be this:

2 teams of 4 players each play a team melee game where each team controls two bases for a total of 4 bases controlled by 8 players.

So far, this is easy, it's built in functionality in SC:BW. The problem comes with the idea that we want to be able to have teams start with money they collect, units they win and buildings/units they buy with the money they earn.

So, is it possible to make a UMS map that allows for team melee play but can start with non-standard settings (4 workers, 50 mineral)? Thanks in advance for any help.

I really don't think it's possible or if it is no one has figured out yet.

Hmm.....that would be pretty hard to do....I agree with NerdyTerdy...

It'd be cool if you could! Have real Tug of War ©

*sigh* I was afraid this might be the case.

I think plan B might be to make a seperate patch of minerals and a geyser with the amount of money the team is supposed to have, play for about 10min to get it set up and let them build the units/buildings they're supposed to and kill off unnecessary units/buildings they used to get there, then start the game. Not a pretty solution, but it might work. Unfortunatly, we were going to incorporate some special units like Hunter Killers and Dragoon Fenixes. The rules can always be changed to get rid of those units I suppose.

Thanks for the input.

You can't apply Team whatever to UMS games meaning you start with 4 peons a town hall and thats it.

Go with the mineral idea you just posted. Although people will be able to cheat that method way easy, it's the only way.

Maybe you could make someones base start with X% or Xamount of more minerals.

I'm not really worried about the cheating thing. We're all friends and the game is for fun. The biggest drawback is not being able to use the special characters (Edmund Dukes, etc.)

SO, it you ARE friends, and if you there are only 8 of you, i might suggest using goted and winMPQ.
The only thing I must mestion that you all will need to have the changed template in patch_rt.mpq or using SAME mpqdraft'ed patch.
I had never tried to do that, but it might be a good idea.

If someone succeeds in it, post your MPQ here, please.

That's a lot of work, you'd have to edit the file containing the data of Team Melee, and implant it with UMS features, to enable it to work, which would be difficult indeed, if not, impossible? Do you have a program that can do that? I don't think so, you can open it...but with what! Notepad...

I only half understand everything before that, but the answer to the question above is yes, you can. You can use triggers to set the amount of minerals and you can just create more workers.

you can mod it afaik

There is a mod for this, but it doesn't work on the newest version of Starcraft. You can get it at this link if you're interested on looking at it, but you'll need a specific version on starcraft. http://www.infoceptor.net/cmisc.shtml

It COULD be possible... it may just not have been discovered yet. Oh well. We'll find it someday. wink.gif

I said that program is named "GotEd"
Ok,ok I'll -->try<-- to do what you want, but 1st you must tell me:
What exactly needs to be done?
Mineral amount (if same for all players) can be changed in seconds.
Everything else needs much time.

Somehow I think the question isn't being stated clearly enough and everyone's getting confused. Doesn't he just want a melee map with different starting minerals and different starting units? Action Set Resources and action Create Unit should be able to handle that.

No, team melee is a template that makes you share control with your allies over units (as they were yours), you also share resources, PSI, a.s.o.

GOTed allows to add a trigger file to a template.
It should very dependant on WhatIsExactlyNeeded, because triggers are not designed to work with team mode.

Well just to tell you, that would drop you from the game.

Only if you yourself were not using the same template. Actually thinking about this, who is on for a Team Melee game tonight? 8 Players, Lost Temple?

r[s]t if you have a Mapping Skill: None why the hell are you assisting people on the assistance forums or are you just looking for extra posts?

Downloading a mod for the game will drop you unless all other players have the identical mod i believe.

Can anyone try to use the file I attached?

You must pack all the files from patch_rt.mpq into your patch_rt.mpq, or it'll crash after you click "Multiplayer->Expansion" in main menu.

ALL PLAYERS MUST DO THE SAME!!!!!!!

The template is "Team Use Map Settings"

I don't really know, does this work or not, just try and post...
