Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Making Names For Multiple Things
Report, edit, etc...Posted by OriginalG. on 2004-08-25 at 23:35:36
I am trying to make a map and so far I am having some trouble. Mine first question is how do i make names for multiple things for example I have 4 beacons and i want to name each one different lets say Golem Part 1, Golem Part 2, Golem Part 3 and Golem Part 4.

The next question I have is how do I make mine own triggers or do I need a special program.

I would also like to know if i have all the needed programs to make a map so far I have:
StarForg,Scmdraft2,SCXv2.5,ScAIEdit if I am missing any can someone tell me.

If these things are located somewhere I am sorry for missing them.

Thank you in advanced for any help.

Scenario: Unit and Hero Settings, click on a unit, click off use default for (unit name), and you can modify stuff in there, etc, weapon dmg, name, life, armor, building cost and time.

I suggest you use starcraft xtra edition map editor, or you can use the one thats given to you, starcraft classic map editor, but i dont suggest you to use starforge or scmdraft because the trigger is confusing for beggineers.

You have to name each individual beacon one of those names, you cannot name the same beacon 4 different things.

You can't make new triggers, you can only use the ones that are in the map editors. And you have all the mapping programs you need to make a successful map.

You should also download ProEdit, it's good for making your maps a smaller size and for protecting it.

Since you're just learning it seems just use like SCXE classic mode and stuff, and maybe even try to make your first map in staredit (the program that comes with starcraft). If you can make a map in that you'll have no problem making a map in a more advanced editor that'll allow more possibilities.

My bad I dont think i explained myself to the fullest. What I meant to say was I have 4 same beacons and want to name each one different. If anyone ever played one of the yugioh golems I think that would explain it better.

When I said making my own triggers I want to be able to put in middle for locations but the only thing they have is anywhere.

You make locations in the location layer. Just click in the screen and drag to create one. Then you can change it's name and properties.

For beacons, just use 4 different beacons all named something else. It's the easiest way to do what you want.

Yeah, a unit can only have one name. Now, there are six beacons in total, or 3 pairs because each race's looks a-like. So you could use 2 pairs and name each one differently. Another way is to just give the beacon a blank for a name so it appears empty, and then use power-ups like mineral chunks as the unit with the name.

Thats just a waste of units, the powerups can be used for other stuff.

You guys have yet to answer his question.
To rename units, you go into the Units and Hero Settings dialog (CTRL+SHIFT+H). Beacons are listed in the "Special" section of each race.
If you want to place Locations, use the Location layer (CTRL+L).
