I want know other people's thoughts on what makes a good rpg. So that we know what people are looking for in a rpg. This will help out alot for rpg im making. =/

i think rpg should have a good theme music would be nice but it would be better if it had something to do with the map. good entertainment. keeps you playing and entertained. unpredictable. challenging but not too hard. good terrain. no squares. ewww horrible. not too dull. should have some special effects and stuff.
perhaps some secrets for stashes of goods while your searching for something.

Well this kinda what i thought for RPGS

- Custom music
- Custom Score boards
- Special Effects
- Abilities/Skills/Magic
- Puzzles
- Sub Quests
- Plots
- Good Storyline
- Good Terrain
- Good heroes names
- Nice NPC Names
- Good Villian names
- Well balanced units & bosses

uh im sure people can think of more stuff then what i can think up..

oh put a GREAT story line. and also try to do something no one else has done. the only reason i dont play rpgs anymore is because i only see this got damn kill the evil bastard and save the world crap all the time. try a story similar to final fantasy 3 where u dont learn who the true evil is until later on. so u might be helping evil whenn u think its an allie.

So plot twist during the rpg kinda thing. Like main hero could be the bad guy. But he doesnt know it till later? mm sounds cool.

-_- yea that happens alot in rpgs. Or maybe.. you play role of evil villian rising army but heroes always get in way so you have go on quest to kill all heroes.. lol so lame.

Well here something:

Villian creating a new type of weapon. Heroes always trying spy on the villian. Villian gets sick of it. Oneday gets dna from all top heroes. Makes Evil Clones of them. Evil Clones cause mayhem on world. While good heroes try stop villians but cant. Then Villians win. But Villian whom create the bad evil heroes find out that bad evil heroes going overthrow him. So he has to then create good stronger better heroes to stop the bad ones. Whole lot of a mess..

Random events. Maybe something pops up. I hate playing predictable rpgs... Random things allow different experiences in every game.

Good battle system is fine too.

So your saying like this revelade. Go to say Town guard. He can pick from say 3 - 5 subquest on random n he gives them to you during your journerys?

hey i got another idea. make it similar to a book where the stuff seems unorganized in the beginning but at the end it all fits together.

Have you ever um seen one those D&D Books? where you come to path say has two ways you can go u pick one path leads you say to cave and troll protects it u can choose attack it? or sneak by it. kinda thing. optional choices kinda thing. (mind my spelling it sucks)

yes. look at secret of mana 1 in the beginning all the guy is doing is exploring with his friends and he uncovers a sword. the sword happens to be the worlds savior. a kid with no life turns into a hero. good idea for single player smile.gif now for multiplayer make puzzles that require thinking outside of the box such as the very first quest in chrono cross.

I like good leveling up systems. The one in Sorcery RPG is my favorite by far. I like spells that can be leveled up. Good storyline doesn't matter to me, it jsut has to be written well. If it's "the world is under attack by demons" type thing, I'd just like to see more background to it.

" World under attack by demons " sounds lame. if more like " Somewhere in middle of a desert a dig site unburied a ancient tome. What was inside the tome the diggers found was more then expected. A ancient catacombs where evil lied for many era's. " kinda crap.

Something like that, maybe one game the objective would be to defend a town from bandits, another could be destroying an evil sorceror...

Other things can be random like what units you fight, what they sell in shops, etc... I'm tired of playing the same game of "kill bad guy". Plot twists, plot differences and originally ideas are lacking in many of bnet maps.

My definition of randomization is make every time you play a map, the experience will most of the time be different.

You could also do things like randomized abilities and spells so people don't abuse one spell. Some people prefer doing things one way, randomization forces people to try things different ways.

Balance the units!

What's the point of having armor upgrades at all if the enemy units do 50 damage and your character has 5000 hp? If you keep the numbers small, armor upgrades are actually worth something!

Lost of sidequests and minigames always helps. The more content the better. I'd also recommend a really tight level-up and spell system.

That's what I meant. The basic storyline is that bad guys have entered the world. It could be that some priests were trying to heal the king with some wierd method that uses another universe or something, then "demons" take over the priests bodies and use the power of their souls to hold the portal open. Then you could have to fight all four bosses to close the portal.

1: Unique something. Anything. Battle system, music...
2: Interesting plot. I don't want to run around and kill stuff. If I did, I'd just do Madness maps.
3: No same old. I want to battle a boss figure or spawns to get harder. Not kill zlings from start to end.
4: Well organized. Please don't be sloppy.
