Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> What should I download?

I'm coming here completely oblivious as to what to do. I know how to make a map, etc etc. Only problem is I only have the normal Campaign Editor that comes with StarCraft. So, what would you all suggest downloading that would let me make really cool, advanced maps. Should I download everything? Just a few files? What? Thanks for your help, people. I really appreciate it.

SCMDraft 2
SCXE 2.5 or 2.6
Starforge 2.1(I think)
ProEdit 1.4.1

Thats all you will ever need... for now...

actually, first see if you can make a basic map to work with the regular editor. if thats too hard, ..then learn it before using the more advanced stuff. questions can be asked here..and blah

If he's gonna practice he might as well do it in SCXE. Same basicness of staredit, but you can place units of each race.

I've already made and edited a lot of maps in the normal Editor. Thing is it's boring, constricted, and uncreative. I know the Editor well enough and know how to make maps work. Now I need to make maps that look, sound, and play better.

Here's what I need:
- I need whatever StarEdit's will help me make sophisticated maps.
- I need sounds to go with it.
- I need saved triggers to help me save time while doing the... well, triggers.
- Anything else that would make my map-making experience easier (possibly. i'll settle for the otherwise), more fun, and more involving.

Like right now I'm trying to make a complicated Black Ops and Halo 2 map. There are some things I need from these advanced editors to do that. Thank you and I hope that at least helped you get a general idea of what I am trying to accomplish here.

Go with Beerkeg's suggestions, those are good for what you want. As for sounds, use google, or use some of the ones on this site.

I think you should start with SCXE 2.5 or 2.6 (NOTE: 2.6 has add-on bug).
StarForge's triggers are more complicated than regular triggers. (Text triggers)
Use SCMDraft or StarForge for placing sprites/stacking....square terrain

One more thing, how do I start all this up? I'm asking because I just want to know if I click an icon and it will start up an editor or if I have to do something else...? Thanks.

For the most part yes, you just run them and open a map like Staredit. You just have to take care what you use because some of the editors are not fully compatible for all the bits of the map (eg, Starforge & SCM Draft both do some wacky stuff to the doodads, with SCM Draft they still work in StarEdit but with Starforge you lose the "tops" of tall doodads (trees, pillars, etc) last I tried)

Start with X-tra Editor 2.5, which is easy to install and has five options of Editor, just take a look at its Read Me for information on them, most people like Base/Alternative, while some like the abilities of Special. P12 isn't used that much, while Classic is almost Alternative, with minor differences.

SCMDraft 2 and StarForge have limited abilities if you want to make a full map straight with them, StarForge uses a different style of Triggers to make them, through writing out everything you want to do, while SCMDraft 2 doesn't have that feature yet. However they are useful for the purposes of Terrain/Doodads and special features, such as units for players that in X-Tra do not exist...Sprites

actually, when i started making maps, i used normal starcraft campaign editor and made lamor maps with units and stuff. then i started making triggers and using switches.
finally i came to learn death counts
i think normal staredit will do just fine
i dont think u should really do sounds until later on, people dont like long dl because of them
learn the basics then we will teach you the advanced
