Ok here's what I'm looking for. Can anyone with some good terrain skills in Starforge (or any other editor, i guess) make me a very nice waterfall? I saw one in the Starforge Terrain thread in Concepts, and I spent maybe 2 hours in all (!) modifying it, changing it, restructuring, w/e you want to kill it, but I couldn't get it to look natural. So, if you have some spare time, do YOU think you could construct one? Whoever's I choose (if any are made, of course smile.gif), will of course get 1 Terrain credit in the first map (and again if used in the subsequent maps). Anyone up for it?

I can't right now since I got PC problems I'm trying to fix.

Suggestion:

Make a horizontal cliff and then between the 2 cliffs place ice or water or whatever.

It's not very hard.

Well yes I know it's not very hard to make a crappy waterfall. I'm asking people to show me ideas, brainstorm etc etc. Here is what I have so far. I was also thinking of just removing that high dirt lining the cliff under water squares, and just having lots of cloaked obs moving forward, and a few hallucinated ones continually dying, to create mist and hide the line. Does anyone think I/you can go further, or is this the limit to SF?

Hmm, how the hell do you add attachments now?

Eru, woah, that's coming along great. Personally just go along with the ob idea and that'll look perfect. REally no need to change.

Trust me not many people are gonna be able to do better.

I thinkmaybe you should change the top part of teh waterfall from that rocky part, and make it all water. It would look better I think, maybe not though.

And your names David, I just noticed that. biggrin.gif lol

Oh...damn..never noticed that, lol. Ok I just spent approximately an hour trying to get the obs to work. I have a 1 square tall by approximately 8 square wide location, with trigger telling it to spawn 10 hallucinated obs, kil em, and preserve trigger. I tried using hyper trigs, but it happens so fast that there is a pure blue form of the hallucinating death thing, and then for some reason the hyper stops and it just returns to the way it was. And I've tried using different location sizes etc. Sheesh this is tough.

nonono, make a sqaure 1x1 location for every square width it has
then make it

Condtion:
command exactly 0 obs at location x
action:
create 1 obs at location x with properties halluctiation

condition:
always
action:
kill all obs at location bottom of waterfall

OK I'll try try that it's just that it might be using up too many locations. See, since I'm still on terrain/terrain effects, I have no idea how many locations I will be using. Hmm ok, I think I'll just use it anyways (ty Legacy), and if it works, good, and then if I have to use more locations later (perhaps, perhaps not), then I wil make waterfalls smaller by a square or two. Is it common to use all locations in RPGs?

Hmm. How come nobody helps me with my terrain problems. ;P

Screw the obs thing and do what eru has.

uh... hes doing what i said but a small variation
did u even bother reading his post?

I just dont think some exploding observers will look like a waterfall. Besides why would you make a location for every 1x1 terrain.

But hey thats just me.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EruIluvatar on 2004-09-02 at 20:05:26
Well the waterfall itself is already there, using the cliff under water squares. The exploding obs are for mist arising from the waterfall, a.k.a to conceal the line made with the high dirt and the water. Look at that picture I posted up top. I wanna cover that up.

You could make it so that it randomly makes either hallucinated observers or real ones....using a switch. Sometimes a hallucinated observer could die at the "end" of the waterfall...
