Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> Three Black Magus
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Stardog on 2004-09-04 at 13:47:46
No guarantees I'll actually make this RPG, mind that:

Title: Three Black Magus
Storyline: You, the player, is one of the Three Black Mages from hell. They lived in hell and served under the name of Satan. Though, eventually, over the centuries they have gained enormous amounts of power. Thus, they began to conspire against Satan; to overthrow his throne and take it for themselves. Then they would rule hell, and all the demonic spawns. Well, Satan quickly found this out and banished the black mages to the surface, so they would never pester him again. He figures they will die of old age, since when you are on the surface world, you are mortal. If not, perhaps god would strike them down, or the paladins of the mortal world would smite them. And even if not, they would cause destruction probably, and no longer be his responsibility to watch.

You, as a Black Mage start off when you portal onto the surface. You figure out that you have to go back to Hell to kill Satan, since the life in the Mortal World is not the right life to live. You will eventually figure out that the Reaper has the gates between Heaven and Hell. You will find him, and demand that he sends you back immediantly. It may result in a fight with the Reaper, it may result in him sending you down because you're evil as it is, etc. I plan to have many different endings, and how they are chosen would be random. Hell, you might even find a way to get to heaven and meet the Almighty Stardog. wink.gif

Players: Three
Player Units: Tassadar
Spell System: Each magus will have different abilities. One specializes in Transmutation, another in Evokation, and the last one in Necromancy. I'll go into deeper detail.

Transmutation: Spells would consist of transforming into another unit. For example, to Transmute into a guard would mean you can walk into the city and the city would be allied to you. To transform into a hellhound just makes you into a more powerful form, but the city will unally you. The things you can transform into is the following:

Guard
Hellhound
Mana Shot
Mana Circle
Hell's Guard
Mordenkai's Sword
*For each kill he gains mana

Transmutation will also give you the ability to turn into a most powerful mage. In other words, you turn into a black mage with ultimate powers of some sort. You'll turn into an Infested Duran with huge amounts of damage, but of course this spell won't last long. And also, Transmutation consists of "buffing" your fellow men, which would lead on to making a regular ghost next to another player so he does extra damage, so to speak. Hell's guard will make him temporarily invincible, just enough time to let him heal or run. Mordenkai's Sword will summon a flying sword for him, and for each kill Transmutation Mage makes, he gains some mana by transforming the dead soul into a usable energy.

Evokation: Evokation is the study of offensive magic. His spells would consist of:

Fireball
Hellball
Hellspikes
Wail of the Banshee
Mana Shot
Delayed Blast Fireball

Fireball would launch a fireball at a random unit in the area of effect. The fireball would hit, and kill that unit, plus a few around him. Hellball would mean you have to target the area you want hit, then you press "Fire" and everything around it blows up. No chance of saving. Though, this spell cannot be used against bosses. Hellspikes would create a lurker under you, and depending on what level you are determines the amount of lurkers. Wail of the Banshee would kill any mortal in the area. Mana shot would create a reaver next to you. Scarabs cost mana. Delayed Blast Fireball is a simple spell that will just plant a few spidermines.

Necromancy: Unlike the stereotype, Necromancy is the study of Life and Death. Spells would consist of:

Hell Horde
Healing
Raise Dead
Create Undead
Mana Shot
Fear
Mana Drain / Dispel Magic (Boss only)

Hell Horde will summon huge amounts of weakling zerglings to fight for you. The higher level, the more you get. Healing would heal you, and your fellow mages. Raise Dead would bring a mage back to life, BUT you would need a diamond in your inventory to raise him. Without the diamond, the spell won't work. Create Undead will create a powerful Zealot Minion for you. Fear will make every mortal to run away from you, and Mana Drain / Dispel Magic will dispel any effects the boss has and give you mana.

Paladin Spells:
Smite Evil
Holy Aura
Angels
Fist of the Heavens
Dismissal
Heal
Divine Shield

Smite Evil will destroy your shields and suck away mana. Holy Aura will shoot out a ton of scarabs to do significant damage to you. Angels will summon angels, Fist of the Heavens will suck twice as much mana as Smite Evil, Dismissal will kill all summons, Heal will heal himself and Divine Shield will power up his Protoss Shielding.

Paladins:
City 2: Ky'ran Lorderon
City 3: Jason Erickson
City 4: Ethan Winterborne

City 1 is not listed because it has no paladin.

Ky'ran Lorderon is an abnoxious paladin with a cheese colored mustache and a short haircut. He will approach you and sneer in your face:

Ky'ran: Hey Mister.
Mage: Yes?
Ky'ran: Your eeeeviiilll!
Mage: Okay.
Ky'ran: I'm gonna go tell the town now!
Mage: I don't think so
[Initiate battle]

And the battle would not be something so weak as him just sitting there shooting his ghost gun, he will cast spells such as Smite Evil, etc.

Jason Erickson is also a paladin on a noble quest. Just your ordinary paladin, nothing special about him, but I will think of something unique for him in time. He will be able to cast more powerful spells, such as Dismissal, which will dispel any hell spells like Hellspikes, any Undead Minions, and untransform the transform'd.

Ethan Winterborne is the most powerful paladin. I don't have details on him yet, but plan him to be a very tough fight.

Probably the most required player would be Necromancy, since he has the ability to heal. I do plan on making more spells as time passes, but the point is each player is unique, regardless if they posess the same unit. Also, a note on Mana Shot: it is a simple spelll that any school of magic can posess.

Lastly, each mage will possess the meditate ability. This will not allow your mage to move at all, BUT it will recharge your mana at a very quick pace. So it will make you vulnerable to attacks, but it will let you cast spells. You cannot charge mana with any other means.

And of course, you gain better spells as you level, and upgrades, etc...

Last note about the towns, you can shop at allied towns, and you can destroy enemy towns.

I'll give more details as time passes. For now, can I get any opinoins thrown at me? I don't care if they are good or bad opinions, any opinion is helpful. Just as long as it's not "OMG!!!1 THAT SUXX0RS!" If you're going to do that, tell me why it "suxx0rs."

Trust me, if I wasn't lazy right now, I could type much, much more. Details about each city, paladin, etc.

So the transmute guy can only change into 3 things? That might get anoying as the game goes on and only getin to become a zergling or whatever... Do you get to upg?

PS: Sounds Good

Woah! This map is looking great at the start! I want some pic's or maybe more about The gameplay, about the city...

Question: Can i beat this game alone or i will need 2 Person to play?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Stardog on 2004-09-04 at 14:25:13
The Transmutation Guy WILL be able to transform into other things once I get more ideas. Though I am considering Hellhound to have a flame attack on him, to add one Evoker spell.

It will be possible to beat the game alone if you are Evoker, but trust me you would run out of potions and the like quickly that you WILL need a Necromancer.

Unlike the Stereotype, Necromancers do not neccessarily have to raise the dead. Necromancy is defined as the Study of Life and Death. That means a Necromancer can raise someone back to life perfectly fine, heal someone, and use positive and negative energy. A necromancer can also raise the dead to undead and make them his servant, etc. I would just like to clarify this.

If anything, the first preview will be the battle and spell system. I might have a random beacon spawn infinite amount of zerglings as you test out your spells, meditate modes, transmutation modes, etc. Though, do not expect an RPG preview, and I seriously doubt I will make a trailer since in my eyes, a trailer is a waste of time.

Anyways, more info:

Hey Stardog, glad that you posted here. The Transmutation guy does sound a might weak and the Evoker guy sounds a bit overpowered. Terrain for this baby will be hard, and I think that you should consider using the Ice tileset. Remember, if you need help with anything, either tell me or post here for a second opinion.

Report, edit, etc...Posted by Stardog on 2004-09-05 at 14:15:36
Cloak(U), if you have a thread up I'll see what I can do.

Anyways, for Mpstark:
Transmutation is not a very powerful school of magic in most fantasy games as it is, but they all have their advantages. For example, I might consider having it so you can transmute into a dragon in due time. Now trust me, by the time you're a dragon, you're slighty overpowered. As for now, I'm adding the following to the Transmutation Spell School:

Transmutation:
Mana Circle

I know that really is not anything, but Transmutation is the hard school to come up with spells. Mana Circle would charge every ally's shield to 100%. At the very start of the map you have 0% shield, and it charges over time, but trust me, without this spell you will probably never hit 100% shield again.

Evokation is a bit overpowered, yes, but look at it this way, he is only a killer. In a game such as Dungeons and Dragons you can be an offensive mage, or a defensive mage. Defensive mages can do censored.gif for damage, but they really make the difference when it comes to enchanting their party. I'll probably make less spells for Evokation, though I know I will have to make at least 1 more to keep things balanced, and that spell will be pretty weak.

Necromancy is a required player if you want to win. You die, you can get revived. Woohoo! You can get healed. Trust me, you will not be able to live off of potions. Hell Horde will spawn more units dependant on your level, so if you wanted to do a duel against Necromancy and Evokation, Necromancy will win. Why? Necromancer can just heal himself over and over again, and have his minions take the hits, while he heals them as well. Evokation could blow up the first few hordes, but will eventually run out of mana since Evokation is the school that takes up the most energy.

But, if I can't do anything with Transmutation I'll eventually just have him do a dual-school mage. Maybe throw in Enchantment and Transmutation, after all Enchantment has the power to posess, which might be nice.

I liked the story, but Im wondering.. if Satan had banished them to the mortal world, and then the three magus dies, wouldnt they return to hell?

And its great youve thought out the details, but dont reveal TOO much. biggrin.gif

Yes it would, but it would make them lose their original power, thus making their souls vulnerable. When the soul is vulnerable, Satan can do whatever he pleases; absorbing them, enslaving them, anything but giving them their former power.

I don't plan on revealing the ending plots and some suprises, but I will reveal the basic stuff.

Anyways, here is tonight's update to the concept, and I'll begin production sometime this weekend probably:

New Necromancy Spells:
Fear
Mana Drain / Dispel Magic (Boss only)

Transmutation Spells:
Hell's Guard
Mordenkai's Sword
*For each kill he gains mana

Evokation Spells:
Delayed Blast Fireball

Paladin Spells:
Smite Evil
Holy Aura
Angels
Fist of the Heavens
Dismissal
Heal
Divine Shield

Un-Original Theme, but Pretty Original Gameplay Style. This could catch on quite fast on battle.net, go for it. 1 thing, if you arent mortal in hell, how the heck can someone kill you?! lol.

Who's to kill you in hell?
And it depends on whether you mean invincible, or just capable of living for eternity immortal.

Sounds cool, though is it going to be large or small?
As in, would it be practical to spread on B.Net, or to merely have a small group of friends play it?

Unorignal theme?! Your a bad guy that got banished from hell! I don't see whats so unoriginal about that! As for the new spells, good job! Their looking good. So... Stardog, when do you plan on starting? Can I help in any way possible other than working on the starforge terrian for you?

This map seems pretty hardcore, will there be a battle system?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Stardog on 2004-09-07 at 22:08:49
Actually read the thread people. Yes, there will be a battle system for the bosses as I have mentioned at least four times.

In response to the Unoriginal Theme, my reply lies in one word :: "Bull censored.gif "

Seriously, show me one map that has you playing an evil person. ALL the RPGs make you play a goodie-goodie, and I don't want to see a map going something along the lines of "your an orc, your evil and uh, u kill stuff." I want epicly evil. I am the first to start doing this, I am sick of watching you be a paladin. I want to see people killing innocent people on Starcraft for once.

How is getting banished from hell unoriginal? Show me one map that shows that, and I'll agree. Just one.

How is getting banished from hell for conspiring against the devil? Note I didn't take the cheesy route. "Banished from hell for being too bad." Seriously, folks, nobody gets badder then Satan.

In response to the mortality, Hell is an immortal plane, thus everyone there is immortal. Otherwise, the tortchering that Satan gives would just kill people in Hell, would it not? Sending you toa mortal plane makes you vulnerable, thus Satan hopes that they will die there of old age or of conflict with another mortal. Also, nobody said you were killed in Hell.

I will probably make a lite version and a huge version. I'd like to add nice background sounds, like water trickling when you go near a river. The huge version would be a friend basis only, though a lite version would have no sounds and will probably be distributable on Battle.net.

Also, if the first one is ever finished, then I will make a second one in your adventures in hell. I have some interesting ideas for the Transmutation Mage in that one.

Mpstark: We'll figure something out once things start on Friday or Saturday. I'll only work on it on the weekends.

Thanks for your replies so far guys, nice to hear the feedback.

Sorry for the lack of updates. My Safari Browser refused to log me in to Staredit.net, but fortuantly I got it fixed. Now that I have all my data back, I can start production sometime this weekend, so I'm a few weeks late, but it was all good. Basically fool'd around and played online roleplaying DND based games like the nerd I am ever since.

Odin: Thank you.

PSYCHO: Depends on how cooperative my Map Maker wants to be. I'm a bit addicted to this stupid online DND game thing, and Staredit doesn't work on OS X, but I'll still do something significant every weekend, unless High School decides to censored.gif me with homework. Expect it to take at least three months at this rate. To be honest, I'm estimating sometime next year, perhaps March or April? After all, bug fixing is a long stage, and my terrain skills are close to suck, so revising the terrain alone will take me a few days.

Production starts this weekend. Mpstark, I'll be calling you soon.

I just came up with an awesome boss idea. Of course, I'm not going to post all the bosses but this one is rather unique, so you have a feel of what my objective with bosses will look like:

Well on the way from City 1 to City 2, you will have to cross a lake. Small encounters on the way, no real big deal really. But then, by suprise a giant Sea Guardian erupts from the sea. Sensing your evil, he swears to eliminate the threat. Players will teleport to the boss area, and all Death Magic spells become disabled.

What happens is you are on ground tile terrain representing the boat you are in, and surrounding it is water. The Sea Guardian will have a huge arsenal of spells, some deadly, some hardly effective, and some rather interesting attacks. He has the ability to submerge into the water and heal himself several times, and perhaps even attack the boat from right beneath you (thus, spawning lurkers right on you for a small time.) Players should take advantage of the time given when he submerges to heal himself to charge up their mana via Meditation Mode. I won't give out all his unique spells and the like, but he does have a neat little ability to launch Sea Wyrms at players, sapping his HP and giving it to him. Though, the Transmutation Mage will be able to turn these little wyrms into Mana, thus allowing him to absorb mana during the fight, reducing the amount of time he requires to meditate.

Anyways, fight rages on. Blah blah blah... not giving all the technical details yet, but you will gain a Water Power Related Item on Victory.

Anyways, I plan to make the Spell System this weekend, and the beginning terrain. If I can do more, then I'll consider myself very ahead.
