Don't you hate it when suddenly during a mass map you can't create any units so your left with 2 and they have 70 something? Can that limit be removed or made bigger? I've seen maps like this where you can create as many units as you want without the limit ever popping up(not the 200 unit limit but total map creation limit). Thx for any help posted in advance.
There is no way around it. You can only ever have 1700 units on a map.
You can only preset 1650 units but only a total of 1700 like vindexus said can be made while the game is on.
Does anyone know why that is?
Another built-in limitation. Hard coded handling is only built into engine for that many units. More would crash becuase it can't handle them all at once.

well thx anyways for the responses

Dude... he already said that read the posts before you post... its almost like spam when you say the same thing people already said.
Well, a mineral chunk is a powerup right? Get 1699 peons mining at a mineral field and they'll be holding mineral chunks.

Well I guess it isn't really a unit so no, you can't get around that 1700 limit.
What was the reason you played mass maps for again..?

Worker with mineral chunk is one unit. WHen the worker dies, the unit becomes the powerup. That way it won't crash.

Isn't it ovious. There isn't enouth memory to handle infinite units. They had to put a limit in there some where, can't just have a million units running around.
Get 1650 carriers. Have them all on different teams. Attack. Bam crash.

so basically you can make a wall with mineral chunks!?!?!? i dont think so... thatd be cool tho
If you have enough battlecruisers attack at once the game crashes. I've done it before
Also I had a melee game once where there were so many miners that the sprite limit came into effect and the mouse stopped being able to change into a "enemy" or "friend" ring.
There is a way around limits, but its a SC MOD, it allows unlimited units, it's also an Editor, i used to have it, the editor allowed as many units as you want, the editor worked on bnet for me when i had it, when i quited sc map making i got rid of it but i started again, but i dont have it no more...

LoL nope you couldn't be more wrong.
Interceptors are units. If your units are maxed you can't make more interceptors, or carriors. The units still exist even when inside the carrior.
SC has alot of restrictions againsted things like this. For example hives and such will even stop produceing larva when the units are maxed. This gives zerg and advantage because they get first dibs on new units once existing ones die lol.
Yea, and their larva can still form new units after the limit is reached, though eggs only hatch into a single Zergling

Just nuke the heck out of everything and you won't have cannot create more units.
If you have the unit cap and you broodling something, will it just die and thats it no broods?
You really shouldn't worry. I have yet to see one *GOOD* map that reached the limit.
This MOD, did it also enable you to handle maps above 256*256, Mesk had some maps above that size in circulation a while ago, with a MOD to play them, was most interesting!

What did the MOD do, change the game engine?
No you can get over the limit. I thought you could I tried messing with the editor and this is what I got. Nothing. If you use the Create Unit trigger. It will say "Can't create units" When playing Starcraft. So you pretty much can't get through the limit.
SC modding is not done using editors.
